PC Turns on, no peripherals.

I have had my PC for a couple of months now, I built it myself and it has been running smooth every since. I went away for a few days and when I returned home, I turned on my PC and the computer looked like it turned on but none of my peripherals turned on.

The backlighting on my keyboard lit of for a fraction of a second and then turned right back off.

Specs:
Ryzen 5 1600
MSI B350 gaming plus
Corsair Vengence RGB DDR4 16gb 3000MHz (2x8gb)
Seasonic M12 II Bronze Evo Edition 620w
Gigabyte GTX 1060 3gb

When I turn on the PC, the CPU led comes on, then the DRAM led joins it, then they both turn off, and come back on like I described, then turn off again without coming back on..

I’ve tried using only one stick of ram and placing it in each slot with no success. I also tried to clear the CMOS by shorting it with a piece of metal, didn’t work. Removed that little battery, placed it back in and it didn’t work.

It appears here is power going out to the USB’s because the LED strip I have plugged in that runs along my desk is fully functional..

Also I don’t know much about how POSTing works, but there is no beep from the motherboard when it turns on, then again, I’m not sure if it ever made that noise when it was working...

Please help!

You did not list your operating system or HDD/SSD. Have you checked your Sata cables?

If you use 1 stick of RAM it should be placed in DIMMA2. Try one stick, then the other.

I have an older hitachi 500gb hardrive that was pulled out of an old laptop.
I am using Windows 10 64-bit

I just tried sticking each stick in the DIMMA2 and neither got a boot or post.

It should be noted I unplugged everything from the motherboard and I re-seated the CPU; all pins were fine. Just checked the only SATA cable I have which is connected to my HDD and it didn't change anything.

Are you saying you disconnected the older Hitachi 500gb HDD? It could be failing and causing problems.

Also did you re-seat the M.2 SSD? They can fail to make a proper connection if not installed carefully.

I re-seated the m.2 and disconnected the HDD, nothing.. Could it be the motherboard? It doesn't make any beeps. I've heard its supposed to make three beeps or something if there are no ram modules inserted, and when I tried it, it doesnt..

Your motherboard probably doesn't have a speaker to beep, it has EZ Debug LED's instead. Take a closer look at what they do as the computer boots. Then look in your manual to see what that sequence means.

These LEDs indicate the status of key components during booting process. When an
error is occurred, the corresponding LED stays lit until the problem is solved.
- CPU - indicates CPU is not detected or fail.
- DRAM - indicates DRAM is not detected or fail.

I did what you said but still the same thing. Why would it say there is a problem with the CPU and DRAM, then turn off, turn back off, then off again?

I did what you said but still the same thing. Why would it say there is a problem with the CPU and DRAM, then turn off, turn back off, then off again?

I'm not sure what the problem is. If the problem were CPU, DRAM, VGA or BOOT, that LED should stay lit. That suggests to me the motherboard is not getting power from the PSU, but you said earlier "it appears power is going to the USB’s because the LED strip is fully functional" and that would suggest some power is going to the motherboard. Perhaps power is going to the 24-pin connector, but not the 8-pin CPU or 6-pin PCIe power connector. I'm just guessing at this point.

I would suggest at this point you contact MSI Technical Support on their website and describe your problem to them. They may offer to RMA your motherboard if they can't figure out a solution.
