Hello.

Im considering upgrading my Mobo, CPU and RAM but i don't know how much i would really gain in battlefield 4 performance.

My current setup:
Intel Core2 Duo E8400
Gigabyte GA-EG41MF-US2H
Patriot 4GB (DDR2-800)
ASUS GTX 660 2GB

swapped with:
AMD FX 6300
ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 mATX
G.Skill Ares 1600MHz CL9 8GB DDR3 Kit
....... total of 230€

1) Would this upgrade mean any severe bf4 performance improvement that would be worth spending those 230 Euros? I'm keeping the GPU.

2) I know mATX mobos aren't the best choice for OCing the AMD CPUs but I'm limited with mATX format, so what should i expect with OCing the 6300 on that motherboard? CPU Cooler is scythe Mugen 4.

Thank you, Nino!

Solution
I highly suggest waiting for a new case. The fx-6300 and M5A97 R2.0 are a great combo. If you don't overclock the fx-6300 then it isn't going to be a big improvement over your dual core. Compare fx-6300 (not overclocked) vs i3-4xxx. You'll see they game about the same but once you overclock the fx-6300 then it pulls ahead.

EDIT. Earlier I said quad-core when I meant to say hexacore. my bad. point was, quad core and above is better.

Hopefully 😀

The cooler i have now is for LGA775, but the kit that comes with it should fit to AM3+ right? Bought it 4 years ago with the current PC

Correction. Its Mugen 2. In manual it says it supports AM2, AM2+ and AM3 not AM3+, but on the website it says it goes with AM3+ too.
I guess AM3+ didn't exist then since its not stated in the manual? I think i have a thermal paste laying around somewhere.

Hopefully i get at least 160EUR with selling the ASUS GTX 660. Its only 2 months old. This is the build i've come up with:

I really like your new build. For the money it packs amazing performance to price ratio. For the price range I wouldn't change a thing.

It should be easy to sell a 2 month old GPU. Just make sure to include warranty info to sell it faster.

EDIT. This build will run BF4 on High at 1080p.

Code:

I got a 660Ti and I can run High with 4xMSAA and easily get over 50fps(more like 60) in BF4, so your 270x should be just a tad under that. The only time I have issue on Ultra is when a building goes down and fps take a major drop for a while.

Fisrt, I'll see how it goes with my GTX660, still haven't got contacted for selling it anyway.

You won't experience much of a performance improvement, you would rather notice more of a complete performance use, since your CPU and RAM are probably giving you a bottleneck with that.
You won't need more than that you're wanting to buy and you also won't need to overclock your CPU.
A simple thing you and everyone should keep in mind: For a gaming computer all you need is a good GPU. For the rest of the computer you only need something to keep up with the GPU to avoid bottlenecks and keep it being fully used.

Let me explain one thing: When you already have a good CPU, RAM and a GPU, a CPU and RAM upgrade will likely give you up to +10 fps and that would be a huge upgrade. The money you would expend in this upgrade you would be able to get a new GPU and get up to +20 fps.

That said, I recommend you to buy that you have in mind (maybe do some more search and you might find something a little bit better for around the same price), don't overclock your CPU, it'll require some work for you to get it done right and you would have to invest in better cooling and it won't give you much more than 3fps. For the fps always remember: You can see the numbers changing, but if you remove the numbers can you see something changing?

Rockerbacon: I already sold the PC and the GPU. So i have no PC now and will order the new system soon. I kept the Cpu cooler which should fit on the AM3+ platform. I believe its a decent one so will attempt to OC.

Update us when you get the new one. We are always curious.

Will do! Should i go with the Gigabyte's 270X or MSI's?

I would go for the MSI's, never liked the Gigabyte's products.
About the OC, I would focus more on a GPU OC, as it'll give you more fps than a CPU OC, and also, remember that we, gamers, change the GPU more often than the CPU, so it's important to keep the CPU as comfortable as we can while we can push the GPU closer to the edge (just be careful not to go too close).
