Hello.

Im considering upgrading my Mobo, CPU and RAM but i don't know how much i would really gain in battlefield 4 performance.

My current setup:
Intel Core2 Duo E8400
Gigabyte GA-EG41MF-US2H
Patriot 4GB (DDR2-800)
ASUS GTX 660 2GB

swapped with:
AMD FX 6300
ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 mATX
G.Skill Ares 1600MHz CL9 8GB DDR3 Kit
....... total of 230€

1) Would this upgrade mean any severe bf4 performance improvement that would be worth spending those 230 Euros? I'm keeping the GPU.

2) I know mATX mobos aren't the best choice for OCing the AMD CPUs but I'm limited with mATX format, so what should i expect with OCing the 6300 on that motherboard? CPU Cooler is scythe Mugen 4.

Thank you, Nino!

I highly suggest waiting for a new case. The fx-6300 and M5A97 R2.0 are a great combo. If you don't overclock the fx-6300 then it isn't going to be a big improvement over your dual core. Compare fx-6300 (not overclocked) vs i3-4xxx. You'll see they game about the same but once you overclock the fx-6300 then it pulls ahead.

EDIT. Earlier I said quad-core when I meant to say hexacore. my bad. point was, quad core and above is better.
Hey guys.

I've built the system yesterday. No problem with the build just some minor issues with windows installation.
Cables are not tidied perfectly but will do for now. Went with Gigabyte 270x cuz of its better / more silent cooling.

Final specs:
FX6300
Scythe Mugen 2 cpu cooler with a 12cm vent (used from the last system)
ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0
G.Skill 2 x 4GB 1600MHz CL9 DDR3
WD Blue 1TB
Gigabyte R9 270X
Corsair 300R
Corsair CX600M

Nice machine you got there.

Cables look well tied in your pics, I wouldn't spend more time tying them. The important is just to keep them away from where the air flows more (basically in front of the fans and anywhere where air can get in and out of the case).

When your overclock it (if you're still up to overclocking) let us know your new clocks and voltage. I would suggest you to first check if you really need an overclock, if you system can handle your games well and/or the overclock gives you nothing your eyes can notice I would stay away from it.

Thank you both!
Yes, I realise cables affect the air flow. For now, no intention for overclocking but definitely will do in near future. Using it for battlefield 3 & 4. Both run smooth as expected. Will do a bench on the bf4 soon.

Can you guys tell me which program is the best for monitoring the CPU temps? Wanna know how my cooler performs in this build.

You can use: SpeedFan, OpenHardwareMonitor, or CPUID HardwareMonitor.

They area all pretty decent. I use OpenHardwareMonitor cuz it provides little more readings. Although I really like CPUID. As for adjusting temps. I created a GPU profile in the GPU software. As for case fans, I set them in the BIOS and adjust them in ASRock Utility if I need higher fan speeds.

You should be very happy with that build. Looks great.

I use pc meter along with all CPU meter gadget. I don't overclock so it's good enough for me, I just enable the sounding alert for when my CPU goes above the temperature I specify and everything goes alright.

Just stay away from CoreTemp. It used to have huge issues with the FX processors (freezing on startup, really annoying, took me months to found out what it was when I had it) in a not so long past and I don't know if it was already fixed.

CPUID looks awesome. Thanks envy14! Idle cpu gets 28celsius; while playing bf4, cpu at 80% load gets to 43celsius. Is that something you guys would expect from a cooler like this or are the temps similar to the stock cooler?
Still haven't figured out the fan adjusting thing tho. Asus has this fan xpert feature which I cannot figure out how to use. Is this a BIOS feature or windows application? Very happy with the build indeed! Thanks for all the help again!

I love that case you have, I'm glad you didn't get the mobo you originally wanted, I have, while it works well for what it does... The over clicking is very limited due to 4+1 vrm. I have it clocked at 4.0. I'm ok with that but the chip can go much much higher with a quality mobo
