I have upgraded my PC from ME to XP Home Edition, but it
takes forever for things to happen, just wondered if
anything I can do to quicken it up ???

While your computer may meet basic hardware requirements for XP, that is not
to say that it will run particularly well..

XP benefits from reasonable amounts of memory.. for decent performance, you
want to see at least 512mb RAM.. also, go to CONTROL PANEL and find the
PERFORMANCE icon.. set computer performance to 'best'.. this will make XP
look like Windows 98, but will definitely improve performance overall..
while there, just check the 'smooth screen fonts' and 'drop shadows on
screen icons'

You may also have problems with spyware/adware..

One thing you can do is Defrag the hard drive (right-click on My Computer,
select Manage, and go down to the disk defragmenter and run it. It will
take a while the first time.

The other problem with an upgrade is that bits of the ME operating system
are going to be left over. It is best to go with a clean install...but this
takes considerable effort to ensure that there is no data loss.

Check in the Windows.Public.WindowsXP newsgroup for more info.
