PC won't boot

Hi.

My pc won't boot.

When I press the power button, all fans are spinning, and motherboard speaker is giving short, continious beeps ( until I shut down PC ). GIGABYTE online manual says it is memory problem.

When I pull 24 pin connector from the motherboard, PSU is giving me long, single continious beep.

One day, prior to failing, my pc was self-restarting every 1-2 hours. I thought CPU was overheating, so I opened the case, re-applied thermal paste ( I moved the CPU ), and when I returned it, It wouldn't boot.
A week prior to fail, pc was crashing/posting BSOD message 2-3 a day. When I opened the dump files, I was there was several missing .dll's and .sys files from root folder. I tried to fix problems, but pc crashed before I managed to do so.

I've read all kinds of posts from this and other forums and nothing helped.

I've tried to remove component by component, reset the CMOS, etc.. Read all-around-wont-boot manual from this forum. Nothing.

If this post doesn't help, i will take it to the tehnician to see where is the problem.

I didn't take it so far because prior to this I had similar wont-boot problems. For example, maybe a half a year ago pc wouldn't boot before I switched HDD-to-motherboard connectors, as stupid it might sound. ( but then it gave me post window )

Also, I encountered problems with soundcard. I bought Behringer FCA 202 soundcard, which doesn't have Win 7 64 bit drivers. So, to run it, I had to use Win7 32-bit, which meant I can only use 3,48/8 GB RAM. Is it possible that soundcard caused some problems?

Well, you kinda answered your own question. It's a ram problem, probably a faulty ram stick. Could you list your full system specs?
Also get Memtest86+ and run it to test your ram.

1. I don't know how could I get specs when it won't even get to the post window.
2. Also, how can I run Memtest86+ when pc won't boot to the post?

For the first i just assumed that you knew what you put in your system when you build or bought it.
For the second, try remove one ram stick, reset cmos and then boot. If it doesn't work then switch to the other ram stick and put it in a different socket, reset cmos again and try to boot.

I tried switching RAM slots. Nothing. Also, I only have one RAM stick.

Now this is why we need your system specs, it's hard to troubleshoot a system when we doesn't know whats inside.

But it is likely that it is your single ram stick that is not working. You will have to either borrow a ram stick from a friend to test or bring your ram to a friends computer and run the memtest86 from there.

Out of curiosity how did you come to the conclusion that it's a RAM problem? He said 3.48/8GB worked because he was running 32 bit windows which is entirely normal for a 32Bit system.

Because his first post also said that the error code by his mobo speaker is referring to ram problem according to the mobo manual. Also his crashes and BSOD is a typical ram problem. The reason he is able to run in 32bit is possible because the faulty part of the ram is not used when Windows only recognize 3.48 GB.

CPU - Intel Core i5 3350P Processor
MB - Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3V
RAM - 8GB DDR3-1333 MHz
GPU - Gigabyte GV-N640OC-2GI
HDD - 1TB SATA3 64MB

Also, my first post didn't say that mobo is returning RAM problem, but memory problem.

RAM = Random Access Memory. In other words, memory is ram.

I notice in your original post you said changing the connector for your HDD made it post?

I've seen this issue before, I had an Antec PSU which didn't work with a certain PC (worked perfectly in any other system) but with this particular PC sometimes it wouldn't post, sometimes it would restart itself, sometimes it would just randomly crash. In that PC when it didn't post and I changed the HDD Connectors, it posted.

Just some food for thought.

Borrow a PSU from someone if you can to test it out.

HDD are not memory, it's storage. Memory is RAM and only RAM, nothing else.

Have you even tried to look at the categories here at Toms hardware. Look in memory and then look in storage and tell which products you see where.

It's not about me being satisfied, but to solve your problem you need to know the cause of the problem and that seems to be your ram.

Update : I moved past previously described problems. I am now stuck at boot loop.

I was messing aroung the case, and noticed that pc was starting to boot when I take the cpu lid up. So, lastnight I (by accident) took the lid up, pressed the power button and instantly returned lid to it's normal position. So, from there pc moved from can't-even-start to boot loop regardless of lid position.

All fans are spinning at regular speed, and there is no beeps. When I press power button, pc tries to boot and right before that one-beep-ok-boot it shuts down. Rests for 3-4 seconds and tries again, basically until I take out power cord.

I tried following steps:
1. Reset CMOS
2. Pull out battery (for half and minute and 1+ hour).
3. Re-seat RAM
4. Pull out everything except CPU. Same thing happens.
5. Tried using different PSU.
6. Pressing power and/or restart button for 30+ seconds before powering it up.

Also, I should also note that I connected 2 additional HDD-s year ago without checking compatibility. It worked fine thou, until now.
