Hi Everyone,

My PC is acting weird. From time to time it wont boot when I turn it on, fans are spinning, then off, then on again. Mouse and keyboard led are not turning on and no beeps. This has happened 3-4 times already within 4 months.

What I do to fix the issue is unplug my PC, wait until fans are no longer spinning, plug it back and leave it for 30mins-1 hour. Then it would finally boot. I know it's not a solution because I know issue will be back again.

I think issue could be from a faulty PSU or CMOS battery? Can someone help me? TIA

Solution
Ok, well instead of running out and purchasing a new PSU I would recommend when this happens again to remove the PSU from your partners and plug it into yours and see if it boots up instantly.

And unless your clock on your pc is resetting every single time you turn it on and off there is no problem with the battery and manhandling the battery would not cause a discharge or damage it. the only way for this to happen is if you were to remove it when the PC is still turned on.
Hi,

I have had this problem in the past and it was because of a failing ram Module. i would suggest if you have multiple ram sticks to remove them 1 by 1 when the problem happens again to pinpoint which ram stick is failing.

I've already had that issue before and I replaced my other ram to fix it. With the ram issue before my mouse and keyboard led was turning on, and there was a beep(forgot if it was continuous or how many beeps) in addition to the spinning fans loop.

The first time I got this issue I already tried removing components to determine what was causing it (ram, dvdrom, gpu. hdd, and ssd). The only solution was leaving it plugged for 30mins or more and it would finally boot. It's like my computer is discharging over night because I unplug it when I sleep.

I see another thing that could be causing the issue is the power supply itself. have you got another PSU around you can use try? as this was another issue I ran in to with the same problem in the past.

No I don't have a spare PSU, my other one I used to build my wife's PC. I'll replace it if I'm sure that it was causing the issue. There is also no guarantee that I'll be able to troubleshoot it because as I stated above this only happened 3-4 times within 4 months. Also, my PSU is not even a year old.

I think it's either PSU or CMOS because I removed my CMOS and handled with my bare hand when I was troubleshooting the ram issue I had before. I could have discharged or damaged it (if that's possible).

I guess that's the only solution. I'll do that, thank you so much.

Thank you also for the explanation with the battery. Have a great day!
