Hello!

I helped a friend upgrade some components and ran into an issue. The PC will turn on for half a second and then turn off when the CPU power is plugged in, without it, the fans and lights stay on.

Specs:
MB -> BioStar H310M
CPU -> i7-7700k
PSU -> Cooler Master Elite NEX 700W 80 Plus White

Note* The components that were upgraded are the MB and the PSU. Previously it was using a default HP atayal rev 1 motherboard with HP psu, it had 4 pins for cpu power and the new one has 8 pin. Not sure if that is an issue but just thought to share every detail possible.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You have the wrong motherboard for the processor or the wrong processor for the motherboard. The board will only work with 8th or 9th Gen Intel processors. Your 7th Gen processor should be paired with a Z270 chipset motherboard, provided you didn't kill it by dropping it into the wrong socket.

Thank you,

Very well that explains it. How stupid of me, I was informed it was 8700k and all decisions were made based on that until it turned out to be 7700k and I forgot about the MB gen support.

Thanks for pointing it out.

You have a horrible PSU as well. Might want to list the rest of your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:

So you're not making expensive mistakes, unless you're looking for an excuse to buy a completely new PC.
