Question PC

Hello.

I am a bit of a noob. I have never built a PC from scratch, but I have replaced parts in towers. I never mess with processors because I have no idea what I am doing there.
I'm just an I.T. wannabe.

The forum recommends that I state that I live in the USA.

That said, I am seeking advice on what to do. I am willing to buy new or get a parts list and have a PC built. I just need a tower.

I am NOT a gamer and have no desire to be. The most taxing thing I would ever do is watch a movie or simple home video editing.

I'm looking to spend around $1100 or so hardware on a tower. Sure I am all about saving money, but I want the good stuff for a workhorse PC that will still be relevant in my work for a long time to come.

I am a school teacher sick and tired of using 10+ year old, slow PCs. I need something crazy fast that can multitask like no tomorrow without crashing. 98% of what I do is MS Office stuff and internet research. I use MS Publisher a lot, but have no need for an advanced video card. I don't do Photoshop. I know that sounds contradictory, but I need to transfer files super fast and often as I teach between 2 different campuses.

What I really want ...

1. A minimum of 4 USB ports accessible in the front. At least 2 need to be USB 3.0 or higher. A USB-C or two in the front would be nice as well, but not mandatory. USB 2.0 ports in the back for keyboard and mouse. A USB 3.0 in the back to attach a printer if that will give me a faster connection. Not interested in putting a printer on the network. I prefer to be wired to the PC.

2. Wireless internet connection. I think that is integrated on all MOBOs these days.

3. One 500 GB NVme 2.0 SSD (or faster if it exists) for files and the OS. Probably Windows 10.

4. One 4 TB HDD (not SSD) I can partition into 2 TB drives or two physical 2 TB HDDs, which ever is cheaper, for long term file storage.

5. A minimum of 32 GB of gaming quality RAM. I don't game and never will, but I need great RAM for multitasking and speed. I want enough RAM to still be relevant in the future. I will not skimp here. I want the good stuff. Yes, I know this is overkill, but this is what I want.

6. No need for an advanced video card or GPU. Onboard video is fine, if that is even still a thing. Two HDMI outs preferred. I am use to old VGA quality and that is fine, but that may not attach me to a modern monitor.

7. Normal audio out is fine.

8. As for a CPU, I want a lower gaming quality CPU. I need to multitask like crazy and quickly transfer files. I don't know much about CPUs these days, but I read that Intel is best overall, especially for nongaming applications. I defer to you professionals on the CPU. I want one that is slightly overkill, but no need for advanced gaming speeds.

9. Two DVD/RW optical drives, I still use these.

10. No need for fancy, flashing colored lights or windows in the tower, although they are cool. I have no one to impress. But if the good stuff lights up from factory, I'm all for it. But I won't pay extra for it.

11. Is water cooling necessary on a build like this? I prefer not to unless it is needed. I've never had a water cooled PC before. I know nothing about these. I prefer a PC that I don't have to worry about leaking, lol.

Did I miss anything? Willing to listen to advice here. To repeat myself, I need a 32 GB gaming quality RAM PC tower only for mutlitasking programs, file creation and transfer. NOT GAMING. Yes, I want overkill. Budget of $1100 or less. Always looking to save money, but want something very solid.

Thanks.

Clarify:

You say "I am willing to buy new or get a parts list and have a PC built."

I take that to mean that your ONLY 2 choices are to buy a pre-built PC or to buy a pile of parts and take them to someone and have that person assemble the parts. You will NOT attempt to assemble the parts yourself. Is that correct?

Are you SURE there is anyone in your vicinity who you would trust to assemble the parts?

Video: most current Intel CPUs include that capability. No over-riding need for you to buy a separate card.

You would not need water cooling.

A case with 2 DVD drive bays might be hard to find in a pre-built PC these days. Not sure 1100 dollar pre-builts would have that available although there are a lot of cases like that.

I could go a lot farther, but first need clarification on the above questions.

I will not attempt to build myself. I have people for that already.

I can live with 1 DVD drive in a pre-built.

Do go on. ....listening...

If I go with pre-built I feel I will end up with a gaming pc with bells and whistles and lights I can live without. I would rather get better hardware than spend money on useless flashy lights.

It's those flashy things that get put into the pre-builts to get them to sell...

You can buy prebuilts that are not gaming PCs and don't have flashing lights. Not sure where you are getting that info.

If you refuse a prebuilt, do you intend to buy parts and have someone else build it......or assemble it yourself?

But at 1100 dollars, you might be able to do better avoiding a prebuilt....particularly with all of your listed requirements that are must-haves. A prebuilt with 32 GB of RAM and 2 DVD drive bays and no video card and a 4 TB drive is quite specific and might be tough to find.

Which would force you into buying a pile of parts.

For someone to assemble. Would that be you personally?

Is 1100 dollars a hard limit, including a monitor?

Add your optical drives, storage drive and Windows to this and you're good to go.

Everytime I see a gaming prebuilt rig at a walk-in store like Walmart or Best Buy, they have flashy lights to draw attention for sales.

I will not be assembling it myself. I have people for that already.

Yes, I agree that my specs may be hard to find in a prebuilt. Just asking what's out there.

The $1100 is for the tower only. No monitor or peripherals needed. Just the tower.
$1100 is around the budget I have to work with for a tower.

Can I get a mobo that has onboard wifi without requiring an external antenna? My PC from 2011 has internal wifi...
Will this mobo have front USBs? I only recognize the rear ones in the photo of the back.

Thank you, but why do the pictures show 2 antennae screwed into the back if its internal wifi? Optional for better reception? Just trying to understand the newer technology.

My really old PC has internal but no external.
