Well i just spent the last hour or so trawling this forum and reading all the various input regarding this memory....my point in question being due to the ridiculous prices (in the UK) of the PC2 8500 1066MHz memory (brand irrelevant here) would I be paying for something that I wouldnt really need ?

I have just bought a E6600 dual core and teamed it with a Asus p5w DH delux mobo and like evryone else want to have the right memory. I do intend to OC, not to a ridiculous level I may add, would I be better off getting 2x512 sticks of PC2-8000/1000MHz found HERE or would the PC2-6400 800MHz be sufficient for my needs.

I have been toying with this for a few days now as my initial thoughts were "Get the 1066 as its gonna be the fastest" but now I have offset tht against getting slightly slower memory but getting 2x1GB instead. As I do not know a fat lot about memory, only what i have read on here, I thought I would stick my neck out and ask a question you have probably heard a thousand times....so tht now makes it a thousand and one. :D

I was asking a similar question when my machine was sporting ddr2-667 last month. I was trying to decide between upgrading to ddr2-1000 or ddr2-800 sticks.

ddr2-800 will be fine in most cases... even if you were planning on trying pushing the OC to a "ridiculous level" it would probably suffice.

Even with my ddr2-667 memory memory wasn't the limiting factor when I was tweaking my OC.

I'm running OCZ 800. My roommate is running OCZ 1000. Our memory benchmarks are nearly the same. For the money, stick with the 1000. But really you'll only ever need the 800 unless you plan to push your FSB over 400mhz when you OC. Then you will need the 1000...
