PCI-e x16 vs PCI-e x32 bus (v2.0)

Im just wondering if the new cards use the full x32 bus or if at this time the x16 is just as good as the x32 in terms of what the video cards actually need/ utilize? There are some good motherboards that are half the price of others with the only difference being pci-e x16 vs the more expensive x32 and im wondering if using x16 would cripple your system with the newer video cards or if it is enough bandwidth for them and they dont really need x32? Thanks.

There are no pci-e x32 slots and if there where they may be as long or longer then a pci-x slot.

so what is pci-e 2.0? my question is regarding pce-i 1 vs 2 and if cards that say pci e 2 really have bandwidth advantage vs pci-e 1.

As of now they don't. Though there is a small difference between 8x and 16x

PCI-E 2.0 slots run at 32x compared to 1.0's 16x. However, if I remember correctly, no hardware yet can max out the bandwidth of PCI-E 1.0.

Slot wise, they look identical I think.

PCI Express 2.0 runs twice as fast as PCI Express 1.0 or 1.1. However, there is currently no advantage to using a motherboard with PCI-E 2.0 slots, as no card out yet can take full advantage of a PCI-E 1.1 or 1.0 slot. (To my knowledge, there isn't any major difference between PCI-E 1.0 and 1.1. The PCI-E slots on most motherboards unless they're new chipsets like X38/X48/780 are 1.1.) And no, PCI-E 2.0 slots are not called PCI Express X32. They're still PCI Express X16 slots.
