heyho dudes, big davy in here!!!!

i have a radeon9700pro, and it runs in PCI mode on my sucking mainboard. it still performs awesome well. as long as all the data fits into the ram on the card, the bus doesn't have to transfer much anymore anyways..

but as i now try to render a full screen offline and send it over the agp to blit it on screen, i get very low fps due the at max 70MB/s transfer rate (about PCI, isn't it?..)..

just thinking of how cool it would be if AGP8x would really run.. waiting for my XPC😀

how fast is 8x? 2GB/s ? 😀

just to note:

yes, in PCI mode you can have some decent graphics
no, in PCI mode you don't get good performance

both is true. depends on application.
but i think a radeon8500 based cards (8500<=card<9500) would give quite good quality/performance/price ratio for a PCI..

~133 mb/s Dave. Hypertransport on the nForce 2 allows for up to 800mb/s from the southbridge to the northbridge.... but that could be TOTAL while individual PCI slots are still limited at 133??? Not sure.

Well, I bought an Asylum GeForce4 MX440-SE w/ 64MB DDR today at CompUSA for 79 clams. It plays all of my current games at high-res with the settings cranked up at at least 50 FPS, so I'm happy. 2D is MUCH faster too. I'm very pleased so far. Thanks for all your help, you morons. ;-)

I know, I know. It's waaaaaay faster than anything I have ever had, so I'm not complaining. 🙂

I'm having a hell of a time trying to install it in Linux, though. Just trying to keep my blood pressure down at this point... :-/
