It's funny how this forum started off as PCI vs PCIe, and it's now advice on weather to get a ps3!
Yeah, I'll probably get one soon. Thanks for the advice!:)

I found one on amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009RMP14M/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers), but I'm not sure that it's the right size for my desktop tower (Packard Bell MC 1808).

I'm planning to get this intel mobo from amazon too (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Bearup-Lake-LGA1155-Motherboard/dp/B004Q7JRJI/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE), but I'm not quite sure about what psu works best with it.:??:

the quad core amd Isn't quite good enough, in my opinion. What's wrong with the ram I selected? The one you found is breathtakingly expensive!

The slightly slower (not hugely) Athlon is massively outweighed by the 750Ti.

The RAM you picked was DDR3-1066 (very slow), came separately (which can cause problems if you get different batches with different chips and timings), and left you no upgrade room. I also wouldn't get VR stuff, because it tends to be the dregs of the binning process, and the quality control is a little lax.

I also don't think greatly of the PSU, and the motherboard is based on a positively ancient chipset.

Oh, okay...
So, can I keep the cpu, but change everything else to what you recommended?
Which AM3+ socket motherboard would you recommend - for the AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor?
My specs so far: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/32iV2
I don't really want to go too much above £500

Out of interest, what's the intel equivalent to the AMD Athlon X4 760K? How much less powerful is it compared to the AMD FX-8320 - not for graphics, but for everyday use like browsing the internet and the general speed of the PC?

I tried adding the mobo you recommended to the part list, but it said there was compatibility issues: "Some AMD 970 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vishera CPUs."
How would I perform a bios update?

Very few do; that's out of date now that Vishera has been around for a while. The issue was with old boards that had been sitting around in a warehouse for too long and didn't have the CPU codes in them.

The Athlon falls somewhere between a Pentium and an i3, depending on the task. If it's well threaded, it can get up nearer to i5-level performance.

So, does that mean that I don't have to update the bios, since the mobo you recommended is quite new?
What's the intel equivalent of the AMD FX-8320?

That message basically doesn't matter any more, unless the board has been sitting in its box for more than a year. If you're buying it now, it has a late enough BIOS.

Hard to define and it depends on what you're doing with it. For gaming, somewhere between an i3 and a lower-end i5. For well-threaded tasks, i5-i7.

When was the first release of the mobo? Is the AMD FX-8320 the most powerful CPU from AMD?
Thanks for the help so far!:)

8350 is a bit faster, and the 9xxx series are faster still. 9xxx is stupidly priced and power hungry, though. I'd probably go with Intel for anything above an FX-6300.

It's not the first release that matters, it's when the particular board (the single exact board you buy, not the model or revision) that matters. The factory generally loads the latest BIOS at time of production. For long running boards, that's not the first release date.

Does the FX-8350 get any hotter than the FX-8320?

My specs so far at: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/32JrT

Why'd you be looking at an i5? Is the stock fan good enough for the FX-8350?

I'm now starting a new build (saving the AMD one) with a low end Core i5 (http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80637i53350p). What mobo and PSU would you recommend?
