i have been having issues with my GPU since i bought it. HIS hd7970 ref. i have a couple screenshots and i was wondering if this was supposed to read like this or not.
photo.php

i would assume it should be at least @ 2.0 x16.

am i right or am i just seeing things?

click on the question mark by "PCIe 3.0x16 @ x1 1.1"
then run the render test.
watch the pcie 1.1 label.
it will change to pcie 3.0.

it changes it based on what your doing in order to save power, and task the power supply less.

oh ok it went from x1 1.1 to x1 2.0
but i thought it was supposed to run x16? my mobo supports 3.0 but using an i7 2600k i only get 2.0 should i try the GPU in a different pcie slot?

ok i will try a different slot. sometimes my pc is moody and doesnt recognize my card right away so it may take a bit for me to post back on this. will lets you know what i find

did you even read what I said?
"but it should change to "@ x16 2.0" or "@ x16 2.1"

I said @x16 2.0 or @x16 2.1,as in depending on his motherboard.
but the main point was x16 which he isn't getting.

are you sure it's in a pcie x16 slot?
what motherboard do you have?do you know?
and if you do know, what slot is the gpu in from the top.uppermost,2nd from the top,3rd from the top, etc.
if you tell us we can check to see if it's in a x16 slot without having to remove that graphics card.

I'm sure it's not a x1 slot. Those are short and a video card wouldn't fit in it.

lol.
I was referring more to something like a pcie x8 slot or something along those lines, where the lanes the slot can provide are limited by the motherboard.

Ya, or even x4, but the problem is that it is showing x1, even after pushing the ? mark. That is what is concerning. It's most likely a seating issue.

I think that your seating issue explanation is the best one.
another theory is that the power supply is unable to power it so it's throttling the 7970.
and the idea that I had was that the motherboard was limiting the lanes available to the graphics card.
