Solution
You need to look the motherboard up and see if it has wifi many do not.

It depends on what USB wifi you purchased. Many people buy those very tiny device. Those are really designed for portable devices like tablets or laptop that you broke the wifi or something. They generally are lower power and have tiny antenna. Then if you stick it in the back of the case all the metal blocks even this weak signal.

I would first try a USB extension cable to move the device away from your pc case.

After this you can consider purchasing a different wifi card. The internal ones that go into pcie slots tend to be the best option but you must have a open slot and know how to actually install a card. There are fairly good USB devices...

Generally ones that have large antenna and already come with a USB extension base are the ones designed to work with a desktop machine.

the realtek pcie gbe family controller is in the pcie slot and i have 2 sticks but idk what to do with them

OK that is fairly standard pcie wifi card. It may or may not have a realtek chipset. There are 2 versions and if you look at the photos the vendor has they show one with a large green chip and the other with multiple smaller black chips. Those are actually 2 different versions of the card. One was first made in 2012 and the second in 2017.

Either is very old technology to be placing in a new machine. The newer stuff is a lot faster.

In any case it will work in any slot that it fits in it does not have to be a short slot the longer slots in the machine will accept the short card. There should be drivers with the card. On older cards like this you might get lucky and the windows will find the correct driver for you. Note if this card is the first version there may not be drivers for window 10.
