I want to buy a USB 3 gen 1 (5 Gbps) pen drive preferably 256 GB. I already have a few USB 3 pen drives, mostly from SanDisk.
I put all three to test. I used Crystal Disk Mark app. NTFS format and more or less same testing conditions. I got varying results. Sequential Read Write MB/S

SanDisk Ultra 16 GB (10 years old)

135 MB Read 70 MB Write
SanDisk Ultra 16 GB (about 4 years old)

150 MB Read11 MB Write
SanDisk Flair 64 GB ( 2 years old)150 MB Read24 MB write

What makes me wonder is within the same model, the older one is quite superior. The newer ones have poor speeds as compared to USB 3 specs.
Are companies skimping on quality now a days? Does anyone have any idea which one is now a days better with write speeds? Specs are silent about Write speeds. All just say Read upto 150 MB/s

yes, this will be one backup pen drive that will get every few days data copied to itself from one of my other drives from my Laptop.
I wonder why so much of speed variation from the same brand when the costs are more or less same.
