I have some athlon xp systems.
1. XP2400 with 256mb pc2100 ram,
2. BARTON 2500 with 256 DDR 400 MHZ,
3. Athlon XP 2400 withKingston 512Mb DDR

I am gonna attempt to sell these, in comparison to pentium 4 systems, would i be right in saying e.g 2400xp performs better than a 2.4ghz pentium 4 system and the same for my other systems, i dont want to state inaccuracies and curious about the whole athlon vs pentium battle, altohugh personally i prefer AMD due to prices

2400xp performs better than a 2.4ghz pentium 4 system
Sadly not.. kinda.. This statement is more-or-less true for a Northwood 'A'(400Mhz FSB) 2.4Ghz P4, starts becoming dubious with a Northwood 'B'(533Mhz FBS) 2.4Ghz P4, and is a complete lie for a P4C (800Mhz FSB) 2.4Ghz... so technically speaking, you wouldn't be lying, it just depends on how honest you are.

The end is nigh.. (For this post at least)

Yea i agree with chipdeath. The thing that gets me is a stock 2400+ performs better than a stock 2500+ barton in most operations. So i have read. Why then is the barton graded higher, although cpu speed is less irrelevent in gaming, maybe i have it wrong but that is the impression i have gathered. But yea the new P4 2.4 ghz chips are on par with the 2800+ AMD chips. So i guess you get what you pay for hey.

If he doesn't die, he'll get help!!!

What works against you here is that AMD has a better bang for buck ratio. So a 2400+ won't perform as well as a 2.4C (800MHZ FSB) but it would be dirt cheap (well, almost)

Roses are red, violets are blue, post something stupid and I won't reply to you!

That's the thing he doesn't want, he is gonna SELLING 2400+ rig, not buying. :)

Me fail English? That's Unpossible!

1. No.
2. No.
3. No.

A 2.4C P4 will outperform any of those workstations on a similar configuration basis. If you go back to the 400mhz systems the performance would probally be better on the XP side, but on any 'modern' system (533/800) the intel is faster.

Okay, maybe I should be shot here, but personally I believe that actually saying something is wrong, but if the customer believes it even though it was never said, that's different. It's not lying. You can't help it if a customer is detrimental to themself.

So, that in mind, use all of the marketspeak buzzwords that you can to make the system sound really great. You don't have to say things like "The AXP 2400+ performs the same as a P4 x.xGHz." Instead say things like "The amazing Athlon XP 2400+ featuring QuantiSpeed™ Architecture and has been tailored for Microsoft® Windows® XP."

You know, use all of those infernal meaningless marketspeak words and phrases that sound really cool but don't really say anything and aren't worth the paper (pixels?) that they're printed on to any real enthusiast. Fill an add with enough buzz words and it's bound to sound good no matter how crappy it really is.

I mean VIA is still in business, right? So it must work at least a little...

;p

I totally agree on this one, I told my customers almost exactly the same thing when I was a technical sales person in Compaq (ok, Compaq sucks but they pay well). But sometimes, no matter how I explain to them, some customers like to ask,"Is this a Pentium?" or "So, how fast is this CPU compare to Intel?" This is what happen in Compaq shop because those who comes for Compaq most of them are novice to computer, they don't care anything but they want something fast and cheap. They want the performance of Pentium IV with the price of AthlonXP (not the top of the line, you know).

Totally True when I have to build computers for my friends, they all ask me how fast is An AXP compare to a PIV, or they'll just say " no, i don't want Celeron, i don't want Athlon, I want a Pentium4" and I hate to hear that, they don't wnat pay much, but they want a P4, wtf?
ok..don't get me wrong, we all know that P4 are great, but not just because PentiumII was a great Processor, then all the Pentium are great...one of my friend even wants a Pentium III instead of an AthlonXP...I was like.. !@#$!@#!..
