Hi

I have just built a new computer and have opened the performance metrics with Doom on Ultra,

It shows the

Cpu

Average is around 17 (Yellow colour)

Minimum 11 (Green)

Max 22 (sometimes jumps to 83) (Red)

Last (Yellow) I cant tell what number it is it moves too fast

Is this ok?
How do i get it to green?

I dont really know what any of this means but i dont want to burn my computer up either.

Thanks Sloth

Can anyone tell me if this is ok? The Cpu should be green?

Are you talking about the frame time monitor?

That's simply an indicator of whether each frame is identical in time AFAIK and rates by how much frames deviate from the medium. It's not really a tool I'd use especially without more advanced PC understanding of how frame times, VSYNC ON/OFF and other things affect game smoothness. I believe PCPER uses that in conjuction with a video capture card to analyze the results.

Your PERSONAL experience of game smoothness is really the important thing to go by.

For example, if using VSYNC with a 60Hz panel but dropping below 60FPS you'll start getting stuttering due to the synch mismatch between GPU and monitor.

The solution to this is disable VSYNC (screen tear), or drop settings to stay at...

For example, if using VSYNC with a 60Hz panel but dropping below 60FPS you'll start getting stuttering due to the synch mismatch between GPU and monitor.

The solution to this is disable VSYNC (screen tear), or drop settings to stay at a solid 60FPS with VSYNC ON, or force on "Adaptive VSYNC" via the NVidia Control Panel-> manage 3D settings-> add game...

Adaptive VSYNC simply disables VSYNC if you drop below the target. Thus below 60FPS for 60Hz monitor you'll turn off VSYNC and get screen tear but not added stutter. (I am for 60FPS at least 90% of the time).

Probably confused you a bit too much there.

There are other reasons a game might not be smooth as well such as insufficient system or video memory or weak CPU or GPU but you can LOWER the game settings. If not sure, try lowering visual settings really low and see if the game feels smoother.

Other:
Your PC isn't going to overheat and die because you messed with the settings. The CPU and GPU have protection mechanisms. For example, modern GPU's will adjust fan speed and/or lower the GPU frequency if the target GPU temp is hit (such as 83degC).

thank you for the speedy response I'm on an old Samsung synchmaster hd monitor so I don't have v synch, Its a very high spec pc however, I am worried about the temperatures I need to adjust the fan settings.

I thought because it was in the yellow it meant it was overheating or something?

Thanks sloth
