I'm having a strange issue after installing a dedicated GPU a few weeks ago. I was using the iGPU on my 4770k for about a month while tracking down a new GPU.

I now have a 2nd display showing in windows. The issue is that I only have 1 display connected and have never had a 2nd display.

Even more strange, when booting up I can't access the BIOS as nothing displays on my monitor until windows loads.

This means that the issue is persistent even in POST and within the BIOS and only once windows boots and detects my selection to only show on 'Display 2' (the only existing display) do I have a visual display on my monitor.

When i remove the dedicated GPU and use the iGPU there are no issues. This tells me that the BIOS is trying to use the iGPU over the dedicated GPU.

This is further confirmed in Windows as when I view the properties for the phantom display in Device Manager the location is "on Microsoft Basic Display Driver".

I have tried the following and had no success.
-Uninstall/reinstall dedicated GPU and drivers
-Uninstall phantom display
-Disable phantom display
-validate BIOS setting to use PCI device for graphics

I'm completely stumped and fearing that the only option I have is a complete reinstall of W8.1.

Update:

The issue was due to the BIOS version I was using with my mobo. I downgraded from 1.8 to V1.6 and reinstalled all PCIE cards and the issue was resolved.

If you are using an MSI GD-65 Motherboard beware BIOS versions 1.7-1.8 as they have issues.
