Phenom CPU with GTX 970??

Hi guys,

Im planning to upgrade my current setup but Im on tight budget now. Im considering just to upgrade my CPU and GPU. I am thinking about GTX 970 and a Phenom processor because of my MoBo. Will I have any bottlenck that affects my games. I will play BF4, CS:GO , COD and The Crew. Can you recommend a good CPU for me ?

My current setup:

Phenom II X3 720 @3.00GHZ (unlocking makes unstable, can go up to 3.2)
8GB DDR3 RAM (DRAM FREQ 535 )

Radeon HD 4850 (like a fighter jet under load)
Cooler Master Elite 332 Case

I can buy a PSU if its necessary.

You're more than likely going to get a CPU bottleneck, yes. Do you want to stay with AMD or do you want to jump to Intel? Either way, you're going to have to upgrade your CPU, mobo, and RAM, too.

With that Mobo, I guess a Phenom II x6 1100T with a (little) overclock would do the job.

I have a 1090t with a gtx 970 and they are pretty well balanced. There is a slight bottleneck from the processor, but I do max both the CPU and GPU during games. However, unless you get a good deal on a Phenom ii x6, it might be cheaper and more effective to go with an Intel setup.

If you can source a 6 core Phenom it'll be your cheapest option, but you'll almost certainly have to look through E-bay or similar sites to find one.
I suggest that while you're inside the case, you add a better CPU cooler, the little Coolermaster 212 Evo is decent enough and will allow some decent overclocking of the big Phenom without making too much noise.
I'd hold off on the GPU upgrade if possible though. Nvidia will be releasing the GTX960 (Maxwells smaller sibling) Jan 22, it's going to be cheaper than a GTX970, draw even less power and may prove to be a better match to your upgraded setup.

I waited and gtx 960 is here! I will buy it with a hyper 212 evo. Will it be enaugh for bf4, ac and grid on 60+ fps?

It should be fine in 1080p.
