Hey all, as im approaching the last phase of my build just now me and my friend were talking about the CPU choice and we thought about Phenom II x3 740 (3.0Ghz) and unlocking the 4th core which my motherboard supports, the cost is about 50% of x4 core and essentially you get the same performance. With this x3 being so much cheaper i could then for example buy Cooler Master V8 and enhance my cooling + overclock it to at least 3.4Ghz which is what the Stock 965 is running. what do you guys think of that resolution? it ends up being 20$ cheaper and i get better cooling. thanks for your opinions.

Settling for just 3 working cores is not bad.It has quite good performance characteristics.I have a AM2+ Phenom II X4 940 BE and looking at performance benchmarks between this and the AM3 Phenom II X3 740 BE there is not much difference between the two although the 940 BE would perform a little better with multi core optimized problems.

Oh Sorry , i Found This thing when i was Searching in Google . i found that A person had A Problem with Phenom 965 BE , he said that he Currently run its CPu in Dual Core mode & 2 Cores are Locked , he tried Bios , He even mentioned that Vista Lock the Cores !

You Said that its Quad Core with all cores unlocked !
I think its RISKY to buy any AMD CPU ! because u may get Cores locked for No reason ( unsolvable ! )

Phenom 965 Was better for me than i5 760 , because i could Pay much less & get as same as i5 , but if i get 2 Cores locked , then i will try to reach i5 760 , then i will be OUT of any UNLOCKING trouble . oh god what is this thing ???? Unsolavble Problems , only Lucky Persons get rid of them !

This is complete nonsense. Post the link to the article.

I think that tomtomy believes that he read a story about a person who disabled two cores and couldn't get them working again. That would be a situation in which one messed around in BIOS and accidentally disabled 2 cores not knowing what they were doing (an incompetent user).
From my speculation about it this poster (tomtomy) may have difficulty understanding the English language (perhaps not a native speaker of it or perhaps he is using a language translation application).I don't mean this as an insult to him as many people sometime browse or use foreign language websites.

Oh i realy cant remember , but as i remember i typed this : ( should we Unlock Phenom 965BE's Cores ? ) . then there is a link that u easily can see that says that , Phenom 965 be running at Dual Core !

I think u didnt Reasearched enough , The thing that Phenom 965BE runs at Quad Core with no Locking or Limitation is not Fixed thing ! but when we say i5 760 , it realy doesnt lock the Cores & its fixed thing for all i5 760s )

Oh yes thats right , its Link that i was talk about , Oh i think ur Right about this , We cant trust spammer & ingnore Veteran Like u ! thanks a Lot . i wish i will never have any Trouble with this Great CPU !
