I have a power supply that does not a a 6 pin connector for my Radeon 6850. I have an extra 230w psu sitting around that has a 6 pin connector. If I plug the the 6 pin from my old psu to the graphics card, will it work. I will leave the current psu in the case, but use the old 230w one as an external psu. So if I connect my psu to the electrical outlet and plug the 6 pin to my Radeon 6850, will it work?

P.S- Can you get shocked from a psu that is not in a case but sitting on the floor?

Well, for that to work you'd have to bridge two wires from the main power connector on the 230W PSU for it to power up. I don't know exactly how safe it is or isn't though. But, like christop said, you can get a simple 4pin molex to 6pin pci-e adapter to use. However, if your PSU doesn't have a 6pin power connetor, are you sure it has the watts and amps to power a 6850?

You would be better off to get a 4pin to 6pin adapter than running 2 psus. You just need 2 open four pin connections. Should be able to find one super cheap at any local computer shop.
