Ok here's what's under the roof here in Calgary (I have at least 20 machines in the Attic, or lying around, in North Bay,On. from a Commadore P.e.t., to a PCjr, an Original PC, a TimexSinclair, Vic 20/C64 and Apple Lisa, even PS2 and Ambra Laptops, and a bunch of others of lesser note, suffice it to say Alot of them)

Anywho, this is a list of what's here in my Apartment in Calgary (now don't try to rob me or else my insurance will pay me VERY well and you may get hurt as well. 😎 );

All systems have access to SMC Wi-Fi(b) as well as T10/100.

IBM TPad 390E😛II366, 160mb, 3.2G HD, W98SE, 13.3" XGA-TFT, 2.5mb NeoMAgic video (WooHoo!); What's a 3Dmark?

Fujitsu Stylistic1200: P120 48mb, 1.6G hd DTSN 640x480, W98SE, 1 mb shared video, ditto

IBM 300GL Cel466, 384mb pc100, 10gb HD IBM(don't know speed, 4800?) onboard video 4 mb, Paper weight. May turn into File-Sharer/router/firewall. Used to have the ATI AIW PCI in this. 3dMark2001se then 670'ish.

GA-7VAX (rev1.1): AMD XP2000+ (running stock for now), Dual W2k/XP, Corsair 1 x 512mb PC3200, WD 800jb caviar (8mb cache),Pioneer 16X Slot-load DVD, HP External USB Burner (also for T390E), Enermax 365P, Elite (made by Chieftec) Tower Case, SoundBlaster Audigy OEM, Was running a ATI RageFury PRO 32mb AGP (sold it for $45cdn) + ATI AIW 128 16mb pci, now just PCI, until the R9600 comes out; 3Dmk2001se: 1189 3d2k3: What are you Kidding me!?! Didn't bother, waiting for something to really bench it. Don't laugh it runs morrowind, Hitman2, and Solitaire fine for now.

Asus A7M-266D: Dual XP1800+(converted to MPs) (running at stock - 1.57ghz) 2 x Volcano 9, Dual W2K/XP, 1 x 512mb samsung PC2100, Maxtor 60gb DMax, Creative 8XDVD, Lite-ON 24/10/40, Enermax 465P, Same Elite Tower case, Saph. R9000 (non-pro) 128mb 3 marks 2001se: 7794 2k3: 863 (run once to bench. then give up due to noticeable lack of ummff! for the tests)

Ok Some upgrades on the immediate horizon. R9600 for the 7VAX 'play box' as soon as it hits stores/online. FireGL (or softGL) maybe for the Asus 'tool box'. Star tweaking/ overclocking the toy-box when Doom]|[ and such rolls around.
And clean the crap out of both hard drives. Also may buy a DVD burner and shove it in somewhere, Waiting for the triple format (almost bought a +/- sony for my B-day last month) still thinking I should put it in a firewire housing though,

I also want another laptop, but can't justify it to simply play games at work or on the plane, or watch movies in same.
Maybe an APPLE Ibook?

Not impressive by a long stretch but it does me fine, for now. Funny thing is the Laptop gets alot more use than anything else because of ease of use, and Wi-Fi helps when you want to work in front of the TV or in bed.

Anywhooo, hope that enlightened y'all. It kinda depressed me, but let that be a lesson to all, the PCB is always greener on the other side.

I'm not sure if I want to list my system's specs on here. I don't want anyone to think their system is too good.

Here we go, and one note, the system is an IBM, hehe. No flaming please.

Mobo: some MSI board made for IBM
CPU: 1GHz P3 Coppermine
Memory: 256 MB SDRAM
PSU: some IBM 175W PSU and surprisingly enough it provides the power it needs to
Graphics: Radeon 7500 64MB PCI card
CDRW: LG 8X 4X 16X
HD: IBM 40GB 5400RPM
OS: Win XP Home

Just because I like AMD or Intel more at a time because of one product compared to another, does not make me a fan boy, it makes me a person who is able to make a descision for myself.

My current pc is over a year old (except for the gfx).

Just ordered a 2700xp, epox 8rda and 2x 256 corsair pc3200!
My current system has served me well, still performs descent but i want to see how far i can take the 2700...

I got an oldskool system:)
1.2Ghz AMD Thunderbird
FIC AD11 motherboard based on AMD761 chipset
1GB PC2100 DDR
Raid 0- 2xD740X, 80GB total
120GB DiamonmaxPlus 9 8MB Cache
Quadro DCC (one of the first, and I got it for $80 too!!)
40x Samsung Burner w/ 8mb cache
52x Sony CD Drive
12x HP Burner
Soundblaster Live! Platinum 5.1
FE791SB monitor
Windows XP Pro Corporate (legit!)
Edit: This thing is over 2 years old btw with the exception of the HDD's which I switched out cause I had an IBM 75GXP and the 40x burner. This thing is great for quantum simulations! (though it cost me a good 3K back then- $1000 for RAM was a lot! hehe).

My specs are listed below. Here are some additional tidbits:

- XP2500+ @ 180x12.5 @ 1.75v

- Asus A7N8X Deluxe Rev. 1.04 Bios ver. 1002A

- Thermalright SLK-800 with a Thermaltake Smartfan II, attached with AS3 (of course ;-)

- Thermaltake Xaser II 6000A Plus case (5 case fans, 2 front intake, one side intake, two rear exhaust) (aluminum, has large side window with radiation applique, and hardcano 3 with temp. monitor underneath CPU)

- Enermax 450W PS (bloody quiet)

- Logitech Formula Force GP steering wheel

- Logitech optical wheel mouse

- Fujitsu keyboard (the nicest keyboard I've ever used, seriously)

- Panasonic SC-AK40 bookshelf soundsystem with two additional Vega VL10s and a single Acoustic Research ARS-300 Subwoofer (powered by Sunfire, no less! One kick-a$$ sub!!!)

- internal and external (parallel port) zip-100's.

- 14" TTX monitor (it's a POS, I know, but space in my room has been limiting my ability to get something bigger and nicer. I'll be getting a 17" LG flatron as soon as I move out)

- Hauppauge WinTV Theatre TV tuner card (surround sound output!!)

- 1x 80gb Maxtor 6L080L4 (fluid bearing, main drive, 1xfat32 win98 partition [3.5gb], 1xntfs winXP partition [3.5gb], 2xntfs data partitions [~ 36.5 gb ea.])

- Maxtor UltaATA/133 PCI card (6L080J4 attached to this)

3DMark01se score = 10152 (give or take)

Spitfire, do you run Win2000 for better performance, or do you not have a copy of WinXP yet?
I have WinXP, used it for few months. Win2000 feels better with 256 MB Ram, and it only lacks the candy coated interface of WinXP. This is why I use Win2000. I may think about using WinXP again if I have 512 MB or more memory.

What's so crazy about it? I just made this upgrade last week, and it represents the past six month's of work. I want this thing to provide me with a reasonable backbone to make future upgrades as easy as possible, mainly video card upgrades. I think I'll be forced to make cpu upgrades in conjunction with motherboard upgrades, but at least I have the hard drives, case, PS, heatsink, DVD, and all that other junk. This will allow me to dump extra cash into whatever I get into the future without this stuff not being compatible.

I don't want to make massive upgrades every so often, I want to make a series of small ones. That way, my system stays more up to date. What do you do?

I have a Gibabyte GA-VTXE+ VIAKT266A mobo, Athlon XP 1800+ (palamino), 384MB DDR 266 CL 2.0, 40 GB Maxtor ATA133 HDD, ATI Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB, Sony 40x 12x 48x burner, 16x Generic DVD-ROM. All this is housed in a hot Chieftec Black Dragon case (alminum, side fan, front USB). I'm running Windows XP Pro with SP1. I get 12,something in 3DMark01 and 4549 in 03. This is good enough for me, but I might upgrade once the claw hammers come out depending on price and goodness of them. I like this rig alot. Oh yeah, I just got a Logitech MX-500, and let me tell you it can't be beat for gaming.

If its not broken, you're not trying hard enough.

I'm now running a 3 years old SONY VAIO, I think PCV-R553DS. It's got a crappy video card so like a year and half ago I slapped a GeForce 2 MX440 inside, felt like the biggest rip off I've got ever 🙁 It came with 128 RAM but I now had 2 sticks of 256 SDRAM in it. Integrated sound card and some unknown P3 mobo. The CPU runs at 650Mhz. 30GB harddrive is almost always full, I don't have porns stuffed inside if that's what you are thinking 😛 It still runs fine and smooth, I'd say its a really great computer, up until a year ago. It won't even run some of the higher end games, so I think a new computer is inevitable, I'll probably get it in the summer.

My new system will probably be something like P4 3.06Ghz with HT, 1gb DDR400, Radeon 9800 Pro, 120GB harddrive, Canterwood mobo. Hope I can achieve all of those for under 1800 by summer :)

Phial, how much did you get for your old system?

Well the stuff at the cottage is in Rubbermaid conatainers in the attic, or in various rooms. 2 in the Garage. As for the ones here, theres lots of room in my apartment, they aren't RS400 or Avid units. 😎
The IBM really is taking up space, but I think it can still be useful if I make an effort. The others are role specific and I don't like mixing set-ups. The gaming rig does all the file-sharing internet crap (If I get a virus, format and start over), the 'tool-box' is for serious fun (video editing, etc.) and is very rarely 'online' except updates and such. Anywhoo, it was worse when I was doing my undergrad, tonnes of junk in a bachelor suite.

because 9500pros are amazing, the only ting they lack over the 9700 is the 256bit memory bus, and for most things this doesnt make a huge impact...

3dmark03 doesnt really rely on high fill rate (the ONLY advantage the 9700 has over 9500pro), it relies on the ability to render dx8and9 effects fast and efficiently.

so yeah.. 9500pros are simply amazing, for speed/price/value to the buyer. probably the most impressive product ive ever seen in the video card market
