I tried the EZ OC setting in bios to see how well it would work and everything seemed fine, temps were maxing out around 75-80 degrees Celsius (NZXT Kraken x61) . Set to 3.6 ghz and running smoothly. After stress testing the cpu I checked the temperature and immediately after, my computer shut off and emmited a burning smell. I turned off and unplugged my computer and checked my hardware. The psu seems fine because my pump led stays on but when I try to turn on the computer the fans spin for about a half second and then shuts off again. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I doubt he can even go into BIOS.

Elijah, you're screwed. My condolences.

What you need to do now is confirm which component failed. The CPU and mobo are the most likely suspects. Disassemble the rig, examine the mobo in great detail, remove the CPU and check the socket as well as the chip's underside. The PSU is still not out of the question either (check connectors for smoldering and burnt plastic), but that's unlikely.

In the future, stay away from automatic overclocking solutions. They have a tendency to overvolt for stability, while manual overclocking done patiently allows you to fine-tune voltage to...

Again, sorry for your troubles and good luck!

Hmm, one other thing: I once had a shitty FAN stop my computer dead. It started tripping my PSU's protection circuitry, so the PSU would shut off as soon as I switched it on. The fan burned my mobo when it was connected to it, and I only realised what had happened when I connected it to the PSU after installing the new mobo; thank god I didn't connect it to the new board... As soon as I disconnected the fan, the PSU booted the rig. Just saying this on the off-chance the same thing happened to you by some huge coincidence (and in case you have any fans plugged directly into the PSU).

That's a good thing to try, yeah. But the smell worries me.

Reset but it didn't change anything. What now?
