Everything looks fine but a lot of people including myself has had problems with MSI boards. If it were my system I'd look into the ASUS, Epox and DFI mobos with nforce 4 ultra and get the one with the lowest price of the 3, or the one that has the features that I need the most.

If everything seems to be going well, you obviously don't know what the hell is going on

For the motherboard, if you like to have a good sound card but with crap drivers, that board is a good choice, slightly overpriced IMO.

Go with the X800XL it should be priced the same and performs a LOT better.

For the ram, it seems you don't really care about timings, so why not go with Samsung Generic? you can probably get them at half price.

Go with Lite On drives, LG has trouble reading some disks.

Do you have any suggestions on which motherboard I should consider. I want it to have similar features as the msi board that I was looking at...but... what kind of problems did you have with the msi board?

I want a motherboard with similar features... what do you suggest then if it has "crap drivers". and the x800XL is $55 more than the x800 pro... which is $323 CAD at chiplogic.ca. And for the RAM... according chiplogic.ca where I plan on buying my stuff... the OCZ dual channel RAM is only $2 more than the samsung generic stuff...tell me what you think....
Thanks
Luke

Motherboard suggestions :
Asus A8N-E (but has no Firewire)
DFI Lanparty UT nF4 Ultra-D
Epox EP-9NPA+ULTRA

Lol chiplogic... okay...

Look elsewhere on that case, i myself have this thing against thermalcrap. I'd recommend you going with a Silverstone Temjin06, you won't regret it.

That motherboard's great, in fact i had the SLI version of that board until i sold it recently, it was a good board, but a bit overpriced if you're buying it paying retail, and creative doesn't allow you to download all of its drivers from its website.

The 3 motherboards that oracle suggested are good, from that the best bang for buck is the Epox and it includes firewire, the best for overclocking is the DFI but is also more expensive.
You could compare the specs in newegg and once you decide on what to buy go to the site you're going to use.

What would I be missing out on if I decided to stick with the msi board... nobody really explained in detail the kind of problems that I'd have... if any...
thanks

The MSI board I had was the least stable board I had (and I've had PCCHIPS mobos! =)) The MSI board I had was for an Athlon XP but was by far the worst mobo I've had.
I can't tell you how bad they're right now, but I can tell you who is making good mobos: ASUS, DFI, Epox.

I like Epox (That's the one I have) because it has good features and good price. Probably DFI is the best but it's also more expensive and has only 2 PCI slots.

It all depends on your needs.
All provide good performance.
If you want the "have-it-all-do-it-all" board, go with the DFI.
I had experience with both Asus and DFI boards. Both are rock solid and provide excellent performance. Currently own a DFI and never had any problem whatsoever. Epox I never used, but only heard good comments about this board.
In the end, my first choice would be DFI, for the features and reliability, although more expensive than the Asus board (which could be explained by the added Firewire controller). Asus comes second only because it lacks Firewire (which may not be as important to you as it is to me). And then there's Epox, a good "have-it-all" board. If you're cost-conscious, go with Epox. Which ever you choose, you won't be disappointed. They are all cheaper than the MSI you planned on buying anyways!

If you build enough systems, you'll run into problems at some point in time. Personally, I stay away from Epox because of two bad SLOT A boards that cost me time and money. But they(Epox) are fine I'm sure; It's just stubborness on my part not to rinse the bad taste of Epox out of my mouth.

I game on an MSI K8N-Neo2 platinum S939 and it's been great. Abit has treated me well for years and with i865pe and NF2 Ultra I was a huge Abit fan. Haven't tried an ABit A64 yet though.

Anyway, just wanted to make the point that different people have good/bad to say about each company. I suggest ignoring most of the "brand" complaints and strickly google search forums threads dedicated to the exact motherbaord model you want to buy. Especially the "my KT133a "brand x" was aweful, so avoid "brand x" comments.

And for those who posted, this is nothing personal toward you or your comments. I just think it's better to give advice if you have experience with the exact model, not the brand. I'd have no issues buying another MSI A64 motherboard, but I'd still research the model first before trying one for the first time. SO I think general MSI bashing is crazy, and others would say my Epox bashing is crazy. If multiple boards of different chipsets from one company have proven to give you far more headaches than other brands, that's different; bash away. I'd appreciate the warning.

what so good about the Fatal1ty apart from the added ram cooler and the colours on the board over the standard one, does it actually do somthing different to recommend that high price?

its got a really good name on it, and i hear taht increases performance by 42%!!![/sarcasm]

I agree with wusy, that's too expensive and I don't think that It's that much better than other mobos to justify the price.
