Computer specs:
Intel 4790k @4.4GHz
MSI Gaming Z97-G45 Motherboard
Corsair H100i
Corsair AX860
AMD R9 270
1TB Hard Drive
256GB SSD
DVD Drive
What happened:
When updating my BIOS after being prompted by MSI live update, my computer crashed. After this whenever I turned it on everything would work (all of the fans etc.) but there was no display, then after 30 seconds it would just reboot itself, still displaying nothing. To try and solve this I cleared the CMOS by first taking out the battery for 5 minutes and then putting it back in, this solved nothing so I also tried pressing the clear CMOS button located on the rear IO, again this did nothing. The computer would turn on and everything would work but there was nothing displaying to the monitor. Because of this I tried it again, but this time without the graphics card plugged in and using the DVI on the rear input, nothing displaying again. I then thought that it could be the fact that the RAM was faulty, because of this I tried it with one stick and tried the other slots, I then put the RAM and the graphics card into another system and everything was working fine (it was also displaying to the same monitor that I was trying before). So because the RAM wasn’t faulty I then turned to the motherboard thinking that I may have given it a static shock when first removing the CMOS battery, maybe even killing it. To test whether it was dead or not I tried a few tests. The first test was seeing whether or not the computer was ‘posting’ or not, I identified this by the speaker plugged into the motherboard. It was not making a sound. I then tried another test which was booting it without any RAM at all, which produced three long beeps, informing me that the motherboard was not ‘dead’ but perhaps faulty? My final effort was replacing the CMOS battery with a new one, it still did nothing.
