Plug in microphone shuts off sound. Laptop is connected to HD t.v.

Hey there! I have a HP laptop and it is connected to a Vizio HD tv. as a monitor. When i plug in my MXL usb 006 microphone it shuts the sound off. I used the fix found here on the forum and now i can see the levels of the microphone but still no sound. I am guessing it is because it is connected to the HD tv. any solutions??

It should allow you to have two different devices, as long as they aren't competing, running together. Like a headset with a mic, could be canceling out a mic alone, etc. Have you tried rerunning the following?

1. Go to "Control Panel".
2. Click on "Sound".
3. Click the "Recording" tab.
4. Click on the device you are trying to fix.
5. Now click the "Configure" button and then click "Set up Microphone".
6. Once that is complete, click the "Properties" button.
7. When you are done with your changes, in "Properties", click "Apply" and then "OK".
8. Then click "OK", again, on the main "Sound window".
