Plug p3 on a power supply

the power supply unit is an ATXPS65950 #LPM2-29-P4

and the mobo is a Foxconn
(not sure about model)

The computer is a HP Pavillion a6300f. Had it in for service and found out the psu was out. Bought a new computer to replace that one but now my xp computer is going out so I bought a new psu for the a6300f. When the tech was checking it out he unplugged all the old connectors and did not replug them so I do not know where they connect. Would like to finish this myself if possible but can't find diagram showing where the connections match up. All the old psu connectors had numbers on them but the new one has no numbers on the connectors.

Describe the P3 connector.

Is it a 1x6 pin connector? If it is, what are the colors of the wires connected to it? Is it one red, two orange and three black wires?

It would most likely be the 6 pin Auxiliary power connector.

I don't think the Foxconn MCP73M01H1 motherboard even has or requires that connector.

On the old Bestec psu which I believe is a 250 watt, this is the configuration: The P3 connnector is a 1X4 pin. 2 yellows,4 blacks,2 reds. It is part of the cluster that has P2,P3, & P8. P2 & P3 are both 1X4 pins & P8 is a small connector with 4 pins.

Then there is a cluster that has P4,P5 & P6. P4 & P5 are both 14 PINS P6 is a very small connector with 4 pins. The third big connector is the main connector to the MOBO. It has 20 pins. There is a P7 connector which is 4 pin with only yellow & black wires.

My new psu unit has a big connector with 20 pins and there is also a small 4 pin connector with it, which I believe plugs into the MOBO as the new psu is is a 400 watt

The P# is on a cluster with the P2,P3, & P8. The P3 is a 1X4 connector. It is 2 red, 4 black,2 yellow. See the answer I posted on GhislainG, please.

This is what I wrote to Ghislaing:

Your description of the P3 connector seems wrong because you say that there is 8 wires on a 4-pin connector (i.e. 1x4). I can see it being a 2x4 connector if there are 8 wires unless you're describing the wires that join the next connector on the daisy chain.

Connector labeling is not standardized and only applies to that specific PSU model.

I've seen power supplies with a SATA power connector that has a P3 label. SATA uses 5 wires so that isn't what you're describing.

Your description seems to describe daisy chained 4-pin Molex peripheral connectors or 4-pin Berg connector(s) for FDDs or a mix of both.

What is the Bestec model number of the old PSU?

To ko88: The Bestec psu is model #ATX-250-12Z REV.😀7R
S/n 071000054275

And as for the P numbers I am reading them off the connectors
themselves. There is a bar code on the side of the psu:
CT: 5AAGHD71ZV700G

******It is Model #ATX-250-12Z REV.😀7R. All the P#s are printed on the connectors and I can only tell you what is printed on each connector.

Now that I've looked at your specific original Bestec BST ATX-250-12Z REV. D7R model and its connector list:

... the cluster that has P2,P3, & P8. P2 & P3 are both 1X4 pins & P8 is a small connector with 4 pins. ...

P2 & P3 are the 4-pin Molex peripheral power connectors. Usually used for powering the CD/DVD drives and Hard Disk Drives.

P8 is a 4-pin Berg Floppy Diskette Drive power connector.

... cluster that has P4,P5 & P6. P4 & P5 are both 14 PINS P6 is a very small connector with 4 pins. ...

P4 & P5 are the 15-pin Serial ATA (i.e. SATA) power connectors.

P6 is a 4-pin Berg Floppy Diskette Drive power connector.

Don't automatically assume that all of the connectors on the old Bestec power supply were connected or in use.
