So I am building a computer for a friend. We have been planing this out quite a bit and here is our setup so far....

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: <week

BUDGET RANGE: US$1000

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Internet Downloading, Multimedia (no gaming)

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Keybord/Mouse, OS (windows 7 rc1)

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS:newegg.com, fry's

PARTS PREFERENCES:AMD, ATI

OVERCLOCKING: NO OC'ing/Cross X

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1680x1050

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:This build is for massive archiving/ downloading and also as an all around kick ass comp not used for gaming. We will go to fry's to pick up the case to save on shipping. Any suggestions would be a great help!

here she is,

case- Antec 900 $100

CPU-AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor $190

Mother Board- GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P ATX AMD Motherboard $110

GPU- HIS Radeon HD 4650 512MB $50

RAM- G.SKill 2x2gb DDR2 (will this work with my mobo/cpu?) $55

HDD (1)- Western Digital black 1 tb $100

HDD (2)- Western Digital black 640 gb $75

Monitor- Acer 22 Inch 1680x1050 $150

PSU- Corsair 520 modular $110

So how does this look for DL'ing/ HD Movie watching? Does the CPU/MOBO/RAM work? does everything look like it will be compatible?
Thanks in advance

I'd go with a Dual or tri-core instead and a 770 or 760g motherboard. You don't need a quad for those purposes, all your proposed uses are single threaded and you won't see any difference between a dual and quad core for downloading and playing music/movies. Since you aren't overclocking or gaming, you don't need the SB750 or dual PCIex16 slots, so spend it somewhere else. Spend the savings on a nice monitor. I'd do this:

MB+CPU

Ram:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166

And then splurge on the monitor:

Also, that PSU you chose is unnecessary for your uses. A 400w would be fine:

Or if you really like modular, take advantage of this combo:

Shipping on that case is only $10 right now at newegg.

you could save $100 and get a cheap dualie, you can always upgrade to a quad core later with that mobo.. . AND you could save another $100 and forget the video card and get a motherboard with integrated graphics

That kit of ram isn't a very good deal. The G skill ram I posted earlier is a much better set as it has faster timings, and lower voltages. 2.2v is to high IMO, that ram is going to burn out quick and that puts a lot of strain on your MB as well. MIR aren't something you should count on, since they only come half the time, and if they do it takes 3 months.

I got my rebate promply, and I live in Canada. If they burn out under those heatsinks, which I doubt, they are covered by a lifetime warrenty. The voltage is a Newegg misprint - it's rated at 2.1V, and warrented to 2.2V.

Part numbers match up.

To the OP, it comes down to how much your trust MIRs. Do you want to save $5 now, or (probably) save $15 in three months? I sincerely doubt you will have trouble with either set, or notice the difference between 5-5-5-15 and 5-5-5-18. That's what EVP is for, you should be able to get the Platinum to 4-4-4-12 at 2.2V anyways.

You're call.
