I got an R9 Fury the day after launch with the intention of being able to max out basically every game at 1080p but I'm getting really poor performance in most games and I'm not sure why. Dying Light I average around 20 FPS on the Performance preset. Ark Survival I average around 40 FPS on the Medium preset with Epic render distance(actually improves FPS). And there are others where my performance is console grade or worse. I have the latest 15.7 drivers from AMD and I'm running the 3.19 kernel. In synthetic benchmarks like Unigine Heaven and Valley I get scores of 1187 and 2404 respectively while they were on the highest possible settings with Ultra quality 8xAA and in Heaven Extreme Tessellation so I don't think it's a driver issue but it may be. Can anyone offer any assistance?

Note: I'm pretty sure it's not a CPU bottleneck. I have an FX-9590 and according to my hardware monitor on my secondary display my GPU is generally pinned at around 100% use during play.

Yea I don't blame you haha. I only run one OS. I don't bother with multiples but in this instance having a Windows installation just to validate that it is indeed drivers would be nice.

Yea that'd be really nice. I'm actually on Mint haha. But I'd really like to find a place that benches the same system under both Linux and Windows to see the variation.

Idk. I feel like kernel would make a bigger difference than distro but maybe distro makes one as well. If I had a spare drive to throw Debian on I'd do just for testing it but again all I have is a USB drive which would probably impact performance.

ya I was looking at that ? I don't know how one would be better optimized or may have less overhead or just that one littlre thing that could affect something ? it maybe the same kernel but then what abut the little things each one adds to it as there own way of going about it or how it uses the resources ??

I was going to try this out next time I get a spare hard drive to put it on [I guess I could do a live dvd ?? ] I just prefer to load up for full use to check things out ?

Maybe but Idk if that would make a major difference with systems that have plenty of resources.

No I haven't yet. I was looking at it but I haven't done it yet. I might do it Thursday when I get home considering I'm out for this entire week.

I was going to install UR 2004 but I guess its now broke -- I see games that worked native on Linux old now do not with the newer kernals -- so who do I blame here?? you had something that worked well and now it cant ???

I seen this with etqw . anything below the 1.5 client will now not work , and the sad thing is it was the 1.5 patch weather in Linux or windows it to me what hurt the game and had folks loose interest in it - for windows I play the original disk copy it was the better game play - to me each patch over that just kept taking away from the game or made something stupid ..

It sucks when game devs do that. Stupid patches that take away from the game rather than adding to it.

well its not the game its the Linux ? worked fine on older Linux but not on new anyway if gaming for support less issues quick easy installations [point and click ] your doing windows -- but i'll bet something like windows 10 folks like me may find there old full retail on the disk games will not work anymore and may find them selves forced to steam only type client so to render your full retail game fully on the disk to renting it from steam plus there mal/spyware client that you accept them to be able to make changes to your system and they want ''with out limitations''.. as stated in there eula ... [don't think so buddy ] who in there right mind agrees to something like that ?? but they happily do it everyday

Yea well I do use steam but what worries me the most about Windows 10 is the fact that there's a damn key logger in the OS so MS can see everything you type.

its all about access to your harddrive

I figured Microsoft see's that you let steam do as they want so why not them with 10 ?? but all folks see is dx12 - dx12- omg its dx12 and never look at what they just did to them selves to get that -

but then I guess your dealing with people who put there whole life and there family's life on facebook anyway ?? they just don't get it ..

Yea that's true. I told my friend that Windows 10 will harvest all your data and basically has a key logger in it and he said "so what. I'm gaining more than I lose." And I was just thinking "you're freaking crazy"

Microsoft sent me 2 of them upgrade to 10 updates I decline and hide them all and each day 2 more - there that desperate to get you on it and to top it all off upgrade you solid fully working os like 7 to do so ?? now you see where I said I declined the updates ?? with 10 your not allowed to do that anymore there forced .. so if they send you something that screws your computer up , well that's too bad so sad for you .. then with out being able to review each update to see if it could do you some kind of harm you at there mercy they want a backdoor program in there well you cant stop it --

after a month your old key like from say 7 is tied to 10 and you will not be able to reload 7 and activate it wit its key anymore .. its a goner and too late we got ya right where we wanted you...

your personal computer is now a public computer -- as P.T Barnum once said '' a sucker is born every second of every day ''

Well all the shit about 10 is keeping me away from Windows for good. I didn't mind 7. I prefer Linux but didn't mind it. But 8.1 and 10 are horrible. The fact that you use an MS account to sign into your system and that you have to jump through hoops to avoid it is BS. In 8.1 you have to go to the create an account page before it'll let you say you don't want one and in 10 I think it's worse.

i look back on it now with windows 7 and how the full retail copys were pulled quickly and all you could get was the o.e.m copies ?? with this how they done 8 and 10 i see it forces you to them cause oem can only be used one time on one computer where retail i could load it up on as many computers [one at a time ] as i wanted just move it from one build to the next

OEM coppies have unlimited activations on a given motherboard model. But only that model of board. So if you do a CPU upgrade that goes to a different socket and get a new board then you need a new copy otherwise it's unlimited.

yes I know -- that's not what I mean a retail copy I can deactivate it from this build and install and active it on another new build -- over and over - as long and as much as I want to -- that's taken away so your then forced to buy another copy so if they pull all copys of 7 or 8 your noe stuck with 10 or mac or Linux -- see what I'm getting at by you cant get a retail copy of 7

Yea I do. 10 spies on you, a Mac is worse, and while Linux might be the best OS out of the 3 it's not very user friendly and lacks both support and software.

I also like how the price of a copy of 7 has gone up $20 or so when 10 released ... I guess to make 10 more attractive some how ?

I do think with Linux theres too many ''camps'' seems they could all band together to make one super solid streamlined os with a universal installer [like in windows installshield just point and click] thay would go along way - as im they need to get a standard across the board ..

I was re-looking at fresh posts from the Linux reviews to see what more may of been said ??

Yea there are too many camps but I'm not sure how you'd get rid of that on Linux. No matter what you'd have to pick one repo system or build one utility capable of dealing with all the reports systems.

another thing is you got a multi million $$ software open some is not where your going to invest in that's where Microsoft gave the best control and profit.. and that gred and cash makes the world go round .. Linux cant offer that even though closed sorce/ proprietary software Is now used in it that goes against there constitution I'm seeing with it now and then I seen in the software manager thing programs they ask for money for to use it ?? that aint Linux anymore
