Question Poor microphone quality with earbuds

Hi,

I got a new desktop but the mic quality of my earbuds is horrendous when plugged into it. I'm using a splitter like this to plug them. I know that the problem is not with the earbuds because they work perfectly with my phone and my laptop.

I tried installing the latest drivers from the motherboard's manufacturer's website but it makes no difference. The mic's volume is really low, and boosting it in the settings makes it sound grainy and adds insufferable constant noise.

Any ideas?

Could be an issue with that splitter, make sure the cables are clicked in properly. Also test them on another system with dual jacks with that adapter to see how they work there.

I tested it with just the mic input of the splitter on my laptop and the mic sounds loud and clear.
