I have an i7 4790k(@4.6ghz), rtx 2070, and 16gb drr3 ram (1600 mhz). Yet in a specific game I play, The Forest, I get pretty crap performance on the highest settings with 80fps max, while a friend with a 1070 gets 100+ fps on the same settings. He has an amd cpu, but could it be his 3200mhz ram that makes the difference?

Yes, actually RYZEN CPUs rely heavily on a faster clocked system RAM kit. A higher frequency RAM kit does make some difference, though I'm not sure whether this is the only reason your friend is getting high FPS.

EDIT: Sorry....If he is having some other AMD CPU model, then no, the above RAM frequency theory will not apply. You didn't mention his AMD CPU model though.

By the way, how do all other PC games perform on your rig ? Have you tried playing some Graphic demanding Games ? Which PSU model are you having ?

Maybe the Game "The Forest" is a poorly optimized title ?

Most other games seem to perform "as expected", I was just wondering why he was getting vastly better performance when I generally have better specs all around, except for the ram.

The Forest is still pretty unoptimized. 80fps seems about right with everything on high / ultra. What kind of hard drive do you have? HDD / SSD?
