Some cities are so "full of numbers" that they have gone to 10 digit
dialing. Most are still using 7 digit dialing. Porting will have nothing
to do with how many digits someone dials to get to you, it will be dependent
if you are in a city that requires 10 digit dialing because of capacity, or
if that person is calling you long distance, or if that person has a
provider that requires 10 digit dialing (some carriers). It is not a
benefit/feature of porting.
As advice: if you store a phone number in your phone, it is to your
advantage to use 10 digit numbers. But porting is not a factor in how many
digits you will have to dial.
