Possible Graphics Issues?

I recently did the whole switch to Windows 10 and my system seems to be getting progressively worse by the week. My computer ran amazing on Windows 7 and it was a custom build. However I got a new SSD (larger capacity) and a new MoBo so I figured now would be the perfect time to make the switch... I'm starting to regret this now though.

Upon first install, it worked as expected. The SSD was fast, boot times were decent, no graphics or driver issues, etc. Then about a week later, after I get all updates installed, it the boot times increased drastically. I let it go figuring there were some lingering updates being installed. Sometimes it will boot right up as soon as I put in a password, others it will hang for a solid 3 mins. w/e I can deal with that.

Another week or two later I start having connection/driver issues. It shows my network as unavailable and, when troubleshooting, tells me there's a problem with my driver. A reboot fixed it, but it comes back now and again.

The final straw now is the computer itself is slowing to a crawl when loading anything. For instance, if I have a local video file playing and I open a webpage on my other monitor, the video stutters and the sounds gets staticky until the page is done loading. Same thing if I download something; while downloading, the video screws up. This happens even if no video is playing. For instance my mouse jumps around the screen when I move it, as if the computer can't keep up. it's as if the computer is devoting 100% of the resources to one task at a time, and that definitely should not be the case.

Things I've tried:
Manually setting virtual memory
disabling all non-vital start-up apps (and rebooting)
checking hardware temps (gpu never raises above 59C and CPU is good)
verifying all driver updates
virus/malware scan
CCleaner
(not disk defrag since I'm on an SSD as my primary)
Different browsers
Googling my issue

Sorry for the long-winded post. If I can provide anything else, let me know. Again, this stuff never happened in Windows 7, so I don't know if Windows 10 is the culprit or if that's just coincidence. At this point, I'm ready to just swipe the HD and put Win7 back on. This is getting ridiculously annoying. 🙁

-Edit-
Just checked and now streaming videos is practically impossible. I get the same distortion and lag as I do from local files. This just started happening today, as I was able to stream and everything fine yesterday.

Solution

I think a wipe and a re-install of windows is in your future.

It probably cleared up some of the corrupt files, but that kind of stuff tends to spread, so I have a feeling you will be looking at the same problems in a...
You may try Ultimate Windows Tweaker to disable A LOT of hidden resource hogging "features" of win 10. It'll also help optimize in general. Look up Tek Syndicates video about it. Also, if you have nvidea (not sure about amd) you'll have to install the win 10 drivers.

Can you check if your Windows 10 is showing as activated? You can see this by going to "Settings" Then "Update and Security" and then "Activation"

Being that you upgraded Windows 7 to 10 and then swapped in both an SSD and a motherboard, (or did you do them pre-switch to Win 10), these symptoms sound somewhat like what happens when your Windows isn't genuine.

Windows is activated (double checked). I actually had to call MS in order to activate it on a new MoBo. They gave me a full product key for activation at the time.

I'm running another AV scan, but doubt I will pick anything up. I haven't changed anything on my computer between today/yesterday and yet I can no longer reasonably stream videos/multitask anything. I just don't understand it.

OK that is good.

AT this point I would say theres probably some corrupt system files somehow. There are 2 solutions.

1 is to create WIN 10 install media, boot into it, and do a system repair.

2 is to do the same, but wipe the drive and install Windows 10 over again. You may do step 1 and find it doesn't fix your problem, so then step 2 is the only way to go.

I'll try the repair, but I kinda came here to find a solution to AVOID wiping the drive.
I just have to make a new boot disk.

Ok, so I ran an src/scannow, and it said there were problems that it could not fix. I also ran the startup repair as you had mentioned, and it tells me outright that it has failed. also says the log is in a folder that (i checked) doesn't exist.

However, after rebooting from all that, once again everything is ok. Videos stream normally, local video files aren't slowing down, my mouse cursor isn't jumping around... and the computer booted instantly as expected of an ssd.

Question is... will it stay this way? :/

I think a wipe and a re-install of windows is in your future.

It probably cleared up some of the corrupt files, but that kind of stuff tends to spread, so I have a feeling you will be looking at the same problems in a few days. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

If I were you I'd start doing daily backups of my data, and then just plan on a day soon to wipe the computer and re-do windows.

Solution

I might do just that. All of my important data is on my other drives anyway so there's not a whole lot to back up. Reinstalling everything is just the biggest pain.

I hear ya, but luckily you can kind of choose your future at this point. Its a lot worse when it just craps and you can't get to anything!
