I bought a 4080 from a guy on ebay. It didnt occur to me to ask him to send me his receipt for poss future rma until I sold my 4070 and offered it to the guy i sold it to. It was new and still wrapped but that doesnt mean anything i guess. Anyway I had a 180 deg conn melt on it and now going through the process. They of course want the sn from it and the only receipt i have to provide is one from ebay. If this was hot, is there a way they can tell by that number? Do you think only having an ebay receipt will be a problem? Any and all input will be appreciated.

Most manufacturers only cover the original buyer, from a registered retailer.

Interesting as to how this will unfold. I feel your gonna get oh so this is an ebay card. How do we know the card was not like this when you got it kind of thing.

I hope this is not how your treated but it could go that way. If anything go back to ebay and snapshot the sales page ALL OF IT for proof it worked when you bought it. And save any and all pictures on sales page of the card.

If it is a cablemod adapter they recalled all the adapters about a month ago. I am not sure if they still honor their damage warranty. It is very rare to melt one on a 4080 they take much less power than 4090.

In general many video card manufactures will not honor their warranty even if you have a receipt when you used any kind of adapter they did not supply.

I suppose I got lucky. The adapter manufacturer got me set up. They actually recommended northwest repair. I often watch his videos fixing gpus. I thought about doing it myself but screwing up a 1200 dollar card isn't worth the risk. If it was just the power connector I think I could but if a fuse or cap has gone too I don't think I can narrow that down. Thank you all for your time and input. Have a great day.

It was one of those. They told me I had two options. RMA with nvidia or take their route. I figured nvidia would be a whole new can of worms so I'm taking their path. I thought I was ok having it on the 4080. I wasn't aware of their recall until it happened. I think it would've been ok but there were a couple times I fell asleep still in game and it was after one of those times it's didn't hold up. So it seems as regular gaming sessions will be fine. The problem is extended time period of use, the plastic just doesn't hold up. They haven't had any issues with their cables. I don't know why they wouldn't have used the same type of plastic with the adapters but they must not have.
