I currently have an MSI B450 Tomahawk Max with a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU. However, I am looking to upgrade the processor and am not sure which Ryzen CPU would work with a Mobo this old. This PC is used to do many things but I mostly game. I would like to play higher end games without building a new system yet and CPU is the only part that I could probably afford to upgrade that hasn't already been upgraded. I have seen CPU's like Ryzen 7 5800X 3D and Ryzen 9 5900X but I am not sure if they would work with my Mobo or are sufficient upgrades. Any suggestions/information would be appreciated.

Your motherboard will support all of the CPU's you mentioned, you just need to update your bios to the latest version beforehand. If you mostly plan on gaming, a 5700X3D would be an excellent upgrade from your Ryzen 5 3600. You may need to upgrade your cooler depending on what you currently have, but that should be all you would need other than the cpu itself and a BIOS upgrade. Ive included a couple of reviews that have the CPU's mentioned for reference. Also, what video card are you using and how much ram do you have? If its less than 32GB, an upgrade to that amount should help keep it running well for another few years.
