Disapointed on my proc overclock, herd rumors the CCBWE stepping models are truncated dual core processors where the 2nd core has a flaw in it so they disable the 2nd core and sell it as a single core processor. Makes for not as good of an overclocker. Lookin to get another gig of ram, and upgrade to a pci-express vid card too, my board has both an agp and pci-e 16x slots. Was looking into a pair of gigabyte i-ram's to run in raid 0 for 8gb, but I'll probably get a directx 10 card when they come out instead, if my X800 lasts that long, damn thing is flaking out after only 1.5 years.

Oh man does that bring back memories, that was the top of the line computer when I was in college. When I was in the military I had the pleasure of using an old IBM running at an whopping 8MHz with a 8" floppy drive the whole unit was built into a desk with the monitor recessed into the desk top. I think it had 256Kb of RAM. Those were the days of high tech....

Specs in my sig. However i tend to upgrade frequintly. will be adding 2 more gigs of ram swaping mobo out for a new one as its in the mail now. using a lian li full tower case. another 5 computers i rather not list off. typicaly i build a new comp every 6 months or so and move them all down the chain till my switch is full for no good reason other then upgrading everyones comp every few months. When the dx10 cards come out ill be buying whatever ATI's top modle is. also getting a pcie 4x scsi 360 card for a 147gig scsi HD for my main. Will probly use my current 250gig sata and a 750gig sata as backupdrives. and move the ata 250gig to another computer then move its drives to a network box which i havent figured out what ill do with yet. I should have 3 extra computers by the time im done in hte next two months. O and im upgrading my PSU to a 1000watt enermax galaxy i think its called. Might get a new case from lian li since it has a 120mm front and back. unless i can modify this case to allow the fitting of a 120mm in front and back. already have one on the window. 6 80mm fans in front and back a 90mm on hte cpu and the 3 80mm on my psu.

I wasn't aware that ATI made an X1700; do you mean X700?

There aren't any FTF displays or cosair ram either.

Disregard the dirty desk, and the tape on my monitor it still has the lexan protector cover on it  .... I'm afraid to take it off thus messing up my beautiful flatscreen ... ha!

Ill be honest. My PC's suck in enough juice and are loud enough as it due to fan notice. I don’t get this continued addition of lights in the cases. Just sucking up power and creating heat. Besides the fact that most smart guys stuff their PC away in a location that hides the bothersome fan noise as it is but still allows good cooling.

i dont think tucking a computer away cuz its loud is the mark of hte smart guy just the person easly annoyed bya couple fans. i keep mine on my desk relativly close to the AC so hte 16 or so fans can move the cooler air through out the case and blow it freely into the air after moving about the case.

Hey guys,

I haven't really researched this yet, as my chipset has never been over 38 Celsius degrees, but now I'm worried. Recently, for no obvious reason, today my chipset is a good 4 degrees hotter than normally. All the fans are on, mobo is clean of dust, all sensors, voltages, and fan speeds are good--just my mobo is almost reaching 43 Celsius. When should I worry? In other words, what is a temperature I need to keep my ULi chipset at or below, or mobo chipsets in general? (note: My mobo peaks at 43 Celsius--not the idle temp).

that is well with in tollerance of the chip. if it reaches around 57 to 60+ i would start to wonder what i need to do. if the motherboard uses a fan for the chipset i would check and make sure tis even working. i found out not to long ago my chipset fan was broken and i have NO idea how long it was broken. also i would check dust make sure cables didnt get in hte way of air flow.

Bump, this thread should be sticky. Lets see some more rigs

OK, I'll bite. My current project involves a rescue operation. I've got an old P4 Northwood 2.6 that I'm going to turn into a file server. Its power supply fan started buzzing last week and when I replace that Antec POS with a new mushkin, our house will be Antec-PS FREE! Anyway, the tiny case the P4 is too small so I ordered a Lian Li PC61B and a Seagate Perp 320. While I'm doing the changeover, I plan to pull the stock HSF off and replace it with a decent aftermarket one I have laying around, maybe a NinjaPlus. After I get the OS moved from the original HD over to the Seagate, I'll install a RAID card and build a RAID10 array. Then comes the hard part - organizing our MP3 and digital imaging collections onto the array. Currently, our archives are spread around on boxes and servers around the house and I'd really like to see it tidied up.

So this probably qualifies as the least sexy rig on the thread and that's OK. I'm chugging away through our home network one rig at a time. I wish the final draft of the type N wireless routers would get ratified. I'd like to yank out our Linksys G and see if it will float in the creek out back.

Ah, but it is a smart man. I have 3 computers in my relatively large bonus room. They are all equipped like your setup. When all 3 are on, it is an extreme annoyance in the room. To boot, that room can be up to 10 degrees hotter then the rest of the house, even with my central AC running at full. At the same time I have my entire theater system in the room and when you are watching movies, you don’t want any of the PC's on at all. I think it was an age thing with me. I sit next to my Prescott Intel PC's running at 125+ F and fans going nuts and its just annoying.

I’m at the point where I will scale my future PC's for noise. Smaller fans, lower Watt CPU's, fanless Video.

PC's today have gone way to bat nuts with fans, they sound like friggen vacuum cleaners.

My rig (no good pics atm)

AMD Opteron 165
1GB OCZ GX XTC
Asus A8N32-SLI
Antec Sonata
Antec Neo HE 500 PSU
ATI X1900XT 512MB
LG 16x DL DVDRW
L.I.S. 2 VFD
X-Mystique 7.1 Snd Crd
320 GB Segate SATA II
120mm Silenx Ixtrema Pro x2
20.1" Viewsonic VX2025WM LCD
Yamaha Y-NSP106 6.1 Surround Speakers
Sony STR-DE697 Amp
Logitech MX500 Mouse
Generic KYBD

I use it mainly for gaming and multimedia content creation, which it kicks serious arse at.

yeah i have 5 computers and it raises the temp in the room probly by more hten 10 degrees. each with a number of fans. i also have a ac, window fan and a industrial fan in the corner im sure you could hear a couple blocks away. but then again fans dont annoy me. in fact i find the sound of fans vary soothing. cant say im a fan 🙂o) of the heat. I'm not trying to be insulting in anyway so dont take it that way.

I miss the old days of my custom build 386 16mhz, 486 25mhz systems that needed nothing but a heat sink.

Well this will kinda have to be my introduction i guess. So quickly: hello all! I will be mostly trying to contribute more where appropriate.

My laptop specs:
M/B: NForce 4 based AMD motherboard (Not sure the exact model)
CPU: AMD Turion ML-44
RAM: 2gig DRR
GFX: NVid GeForce Go 7900 GTX x 2 (SLi is a wonderful thing) 😀
HDD: 100gb SATA
OPTICAL: DVD-RW/CD-RW
audio: 4.1 built in speakers
OS: Fedora Linux 5 with Windows XP MCE for gaming
Monitor: 19" LCD 1680x1050
Power: Many Watts and a battery that lasts about 55mins

I'm a bit sketchy on a couple of things there cos i haven't opened my laptop up to have a look at it yet. Previous PC was a bit more interesting and was CPU/GFX/PSU watercooled courtesy of Zalman.

Tis true, but great for the old monthly LAN party's! And quite a change from a not very portable desktop. In saying that what kinda laptop weighs in at 6kg anyway?
