This is funny, i updated 3d mark 2003 with the new build patch and my score went to 11700, lol. Must be because its DX9b instead of a so my vid can take a tiney bit more advantage of it. I wouldn't mind trying the pirated copy if i could find one without viruses( and yes i am going to buy the game, i just want to see how my system stacks up in the game, i should be able to run max everthing at 1600x1200 or 1024x768 with 4xaa/8xAniso. not sure witch, if the game is anything like the ut engine wich has surprisingly few jaggies compared to games like SplinterCell when no aa is on i may opt for 1600x1200.

I get that clicking sound when I play too. It will most likely be corrected with the first patch. Funny I thought that sound was part of the game but I guess not. Since the game is so immersive with other sounds it doesn't really bother me all that much.

Captain insano due to the nature of the game (it's dark) and the nature of the graphics, jaggies are much less noticeable than in other games, even compared to UT! I have not mentioned that till now, but since you brought it up I thought I'd confirm your suspicions.

Ok, so there is no need to runn AA if i run it at high res once i get it, thx, that saves me about 10 minutes trying to decided which one looks better, so i'll just crank er up to 1600x1200. I have one computer related question, will it hurt my card if i up my AGP voltage to 1.65v(I am overclocking and i want to try to get it artifact free and as high as possible)?? The default on my Abit board is actually 1.55, a bit higher than normal.

1280*1024 medium
28.1 fps

It keep skipping in the timedemo(like freezing)...yet in the game it dont.

One more thing when i enable Vsynch my fps drops....like it pass from 40 to 30 and even less...

Well i play with those setting and it run realy good... i keep a good constant 30fps and sometime 20fps in big battle in a big room. Btw i used all the tweaks including the uncompressing one.

EDIT : Ran it two time in a row and in the second one the freezing had gone...got 32.5 fps.

Hey I'm about the same as you, my choo-choo train got a boogy too, just a little further inside playing with Mr. Pinky.

Hated that guess the password before taking off tho.

Well i must say that those [-peep-] flying head are the anoyinh [-peep-]....just saw them for the first time and i can say that they are the most anoying ennemy i've seen so far.

BTW There is some strange behavior in the fps....Sometime its going to be so fluid that i can see tearing in some big enviroment with monster and [-peep-]....but sometime for no reason its slower even with almost nothing at the screen. Nothing unplayable...but just strange...

Btw the spider boss was sooooo ez. And BTW my fps during that fight were in the 50++

Greyghost, are you using stock cooling or water cooling? I also have a GT and was wondering what kind of OC I can get with stock cooling.

Has anyone read about the decompressing all PAK files into the BASE folder, which helps speed up the game's decompression stages?

Yes, it does nothing. As does changing the games cache.

In order to find a good game setting for my system, I ran the benchmark and found that 1024x768, medium quality, is where I would get the best experience.
I played on high quality, but experienced minor hitches.
So....with my 2100+/DDR266 and 9800non pro running @ default speeds, I got this
Which I'm really happy with. Too bad the game is monotonous and predictable(not to mention a total let down)

I use only air cooling for the GT. My case is an Antec SoHo case with 3 fans. The best overclock I run is 415/1150 and the temp usually stays around 63C during heavy gaming. I keep it down to 400/1100 just to be safe.

Thanks for the warning about how boring the game is. To think I was about to go to Circuit City today and waste $45 on it. Too bad, I wanted to benchie some systems.

I have actually gone back and installed HalfLife and am determined to finish it(this time) before HL2 comes out. I also have Wolfenstein and Serious Sam ($10 bargain bin) that I never even cracked the box open. Maybe I will, I'm Trying to resist spending the money on D3.

1024x768 High detail AA&AF off = 36.7 FPS
1024x768 Ultra High detail AA&AF off = 22.7 FPS

Hehe. Actually gameplay at ultra was ok for me (personally), but at high was way smooth.

I set the tweaks to:
set image_useCache "1"
set image_cacheMegs "512"
set image_cacheMinK "100000"

The demos are ran at these settings.

P.S Oced my card too, ran the demos with 500/340.

I'm wondering if my results are about where they should be. They aren't anything special, that's for sure. Seeing that one dood's scores(at top) with p4 3.0/9800pro I figured I would get around the same with my rig. But nope:

All demos ran at 1024x768 High Quality
All scores posted from 2nd run

Cat 4.8's

36.8 default 324/290
43.4 oc'd 401/322(my max oc in most other games is 416/340)

Cat 4.9's

37.4 default
44.2 oc'd

I figured I would get at least 43-44 or so at default considering my a64 is supposed to perform significantly better than the p4. I know my vid card is the nonpro(256bit), but I thought my advantage in cpu would nullify his advantage of 9800p over nonpro.

Hmm, oh well. The game still runs fine.

Some more very interesting numbers

1024x768 high with no ani = 43fps
1024x768 high with 8x ani = 41.8fps

Look like there is no reason not to enable aniso....

Wow, amazing results after using a tweak which included creating an autoexec.cfg file with the following settings(it said this was for high quality for 128+ mb cards) and I'm just curious if I'm actually getting a good tweak, or are any of these settings compromising visual quality:

128 Megabyte+ Video Cards
seta image_downSizeLimit "1024"
seta image_ignoreHighQuality "0"
seta image_downSizeBumpLimit "1024"
seta image_downSizeSpecularLimit "64"
seta image_downSizeBump "0"
seta image_downSizeSpecular "0"
seta image_downSize "1"
seta image_forceDownSize "0"
seta image_lodbias "0"
seta r_preload "1"
seta r_skipBump "0"
seta r_shadows "1"
seta r_useOptimizedShadows "0"
seta r_useTurboShadow "0"
seta g_bloodEffects "1"
seta g_decals "0"
seta g_showBrass "1"
seta g_muzzleFlash "1"
seta g_showPlayerShadow "1"
seta image_anisotropy "4"
seta image_filter "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST"

After putting this is the base folder, I ran demo1 and this is what I got for 2nd run:

1024x768 high = 51.2fps

What a nice jump. Now I noticed the AF was set to 4x it looks like which is half what High Quality sets it to. But with what coylter just pointed out, I shouldn't see much of a gain in fps from doing this anyway. Wonder if any of the other settings are depriving graphical quality to give me the higher fps score.

Earlier I tried Doom on my friend's computer with a GF4 Ti4200 and I was blown away by how well the game runs. Obviously the resolution and detail are lower, but it still looks phenomenal, and he has surround sound which I do not, lucky bastard.

Did you fall off the stupid tree son?

I can get a higher score than that, if I did the things you are doing.

That was at 1600x1200 Ultra High detail 6xAA and 16x aniso.

This is the tweak that I used to get that score: Run the timedemo demo1 in doom 3 as normal, hit printscreen. Open the image in Paint. Modify to shower higher than actual values. Add funny commentary.

This tweak got me about 1500% boost!!!!
