oh, nothing in particular. i was just confirming the higher TAT discussion with Dave_McMahon the page before this. i just noticed it was that was already 5 days ago.. sorry if i seemed to come out of nowhere.. 😳

aside from that, just posted my OC as per topic.

Some steppings of the mobile Intel® Core™2 processor do indicate Tj to be approximately 85 or 100 via a single bit in the EXT_CONFIG register (msr 0EEh) but desktop, workstation and server processors do not. Nor is there a register implemented in those processors that software can read to get the Tj value for either the Pentium® 4 processor, Intel® Xeon® processors or Intel® Core™2 processors.

Thanks, I knew I had read that somewhere. Computronix on what data do you base your formula for determining Tjunction max? If we cant find the actual Tjmax then we are all up a creek since TAT is designed to only read mobile chips.

Spent some time overclocking my graphics card, now back to the processor..

Changed some things since last and got huge improvements on both 3dbenchmark and pcwiz07's benchmark, compared to E6600 @ 2400Mhz it smoked it in all areas, Dryhstone went off the chart

followed directions in C2D overclocking guide disabled this that n the other,
set pcie freq, but the key was ctrl+F1 before MIT bios, set timing to 4-4-4-12, still no voltage changes... Seems setting mem timings makes a difference even tho you dont have to in order to overclock

I have the following:

E4300
Gigabyte 965P-DS3 Rev 3.3
ATI Radion X1950 Pro
2GB Corsair CM2x1024-6400 DDR 2

So here is my problem..

If I overclock anything over 300Mhz.. it reboots just fine and works fine in Windows. however, When I shut it down.. and turn it on, it just resets back to 1.8 GHz... At 300mhz, it works like a charm without any changes...

Any ideas on why this is?

Also, what is a good benchmark test and where can I download them? Please help..=(

I Ideally, I want to run at 3.2 ghz.. Like I said I can get it to work but when it shuts down.. thats when the problem happens.....

Thanks!

Can't get it to run any higher without errors in Prime95. Don't want to bump up the voltage anymore.

I'm happy 😀 :!:

I am having problems getting my new e4300 on my evga 680i mobo past 2.47 ghz. I turned the spread spectrum off and set the vcore to 1.4 and fsb to 1200. I am hearing about people getting the fsb to 1300+ on close to stock voltages, what am I doing wrong.

I followed the Overclocking Guide from this forum. disable cie, eist etc

Had it at 3402 but had to up the vcore to 1.45 to keep it stable.

I dropped it down to 3240 vcore @ 1.35 all else is the same.

After reviewing this, it seems that the most stable OC that can be achieved with a 1.35 vcore and no other adjustments is a 350 mhz FSB at a 9 multiplier. Anyone agree?

And Im thinking of a Tuniq Tower to cool that.

hey ho i got some problems with my overclocking ..-.-..! so first sry for my bad english.. and 2nd sry that i don´t really know much about pc.. overclocking oder stuff like that..!

a friend helped me find some good and not 2 expensive things to get a good ps.. and now we wanted to overclock.. is got these items in my pc :

-intel core 2 duo e4300 1800Mhz S775 2mb tray
-cpuk Scythe infinity scinf-1000 (amd, intel)
-mb gigabyte ga-965g-ds3 s775 g965 atx
-2x ddr2 1024mb 800 mhz
-hdsa 250gb samsung hd252kj spinpoint t166 7200rpm sata 2
-geh netzteil atx seasonic s12 380W atx 2.2

and now the problem is that when we overclock the pc to 3 ghz or 2.66 ... the pc it doesn´t boot annymore cause it doesn´t find my harddisk....-.-.., when i let it on 1.8 ghz everything is ok.. -.-...! so annyone got some helpful information for me maybe ? ^^

so far then.. maybe somone understands what happens here and can help me 😀.. or understands what i am writing here.. *hehe..^^..!

The problem is you have the gigabyte ga-965g-ds3 (onboard video). From what I understand this motherboard doesn't overclock well. You want the gigabyte ga-965P-ds3 (no onboard video) to overclock well.

dammit.., we also bought the one without onboard graphics but they´ve sent us some with onboard.. and if i send it back it´s gonna take some week till i get the right one i think.. -.-..!

hm maybe i should just buy a new mainboard next month and use it on my old ps ^^..! we will see.. i can play everything thats out on max quallity.. i think.. so it´s enaugh for now....!

i´ll tell my friend 2 look at this forum, then he can say what 2 do next ^^..!

ty 2 all ..!!!

also, a 380 w psu is very very risky for a 3+ ghz oc.

And, bump on my help. I also have a
e4300
evga 680i
2x evga 8800 gts 320
ocz gold 2x 1 gb

I can get it to 2.47 no problem, but anything higher and it wont make it past post. Once I overclocked it to 3 ghz and it would restart right before it was going to enter the BIOS until the 50th time. Any ideas? I disabled spread spectrum and c1e and nothing seems to work.

Here's my overclock:

Ok, finally, after a lot more trouble than I expected, I am happy to put my O/C here:

e4300 @320 Mhz FSB (2.88 Ghz) 9x (I was what I wanted, dont know and havent tested if CPU could do more)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA965P-DS3
Heat sink fan: Thermalright XP120 with socket 775 adapter and 120mm fan @ 1600RPM (the one that comes with my Case, Antec Sonata 2 at medium speed setting, I put a 120mm 1000 RPM fan to exhaust the air out of the case)
Mem ratio 2.5 (mem is at 800 Mhz, stock speed (I have 2 x 1 Gig of S-Skill DDR2 800)
FSB is overvolted +0.1V (Beleive it or not, without this, I could not even get 225 Mhz FSB)
Vcore 1.34275
Other voltages are stock

At these settings, I was getting a stable overclock, but with pretty high temperatures (highest temp in TAT@100% 71°C at 21°C room temp), To get better results, I had to lap my CPU, now with TAT @ 100% and 27°C room temp (ya, finally the summer came here is Quebec!!!!!), I get 67°C as highest temp in TAT (also tried with slightly lower room temp and got 65°C max temp in TAT@100%). My CPU was MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE CONCAVE than any photos you see in lga775 CPU lapping guide, it was really really in bad need of being lapped! I knew there was something really wrong because my temps were high at first with the 1000RPM fan on my thermalright XP120, I switched the the antec case fan at full speed (2000 RPM I think, much much faster anyway) and I only got an improvement of 1°C..... Plus my idle - load temp difference was way too high.

Sup all
i got 3200Mhz 356 fsb
on 1.4v core
715Mhz ram runing on 4-4-4-12 timeings ram came with lazy 5-5-5-15 +2v ram
Temps are ldel=38-40c
60% load on both cores =50's hits 60c but then drops
And got the 120mm tower
I can go higher i been stable at 3.3Ghz but the temps where a bit to high for me. but that was before i found out the heatsink fan is set wrong
7400 pc mark

what's the 120mm tower? There's plenty of 120mm fan towers, you have to be more specific on that
not realy about 22 120mm coolers i got the o mighty Tuniq Tower 120 keeps temps high 30's idle noting higher then 55.
