Question Potentiometer problem

Hi everyone,

Please help me out with this electronics question for a university project.

I need to get a pump running at different speeds so I ordered an electric motor, a potentiometer and a power supply adapter. I put them all together and they worked, however the potentiometer got burnt out.

These are the items:

And this is what happened with the controller:

I am trying to find where the problem is. Is the power supply not giving a non-digital dc input? Is the current rating (3A) of the potentiometer being different to 6A given by the power supply?

If you could help I would really appreciate it!

It's the current rating, current produces heat...

Little concerned that you are doing this and not knowing that. I've no comment on the technicians capability.

Been reading so many threads now that are contradicting each other on wheter is fine or not to supply more current than the current rating. Thanks!

I'm also concerned as you've electronics operating near/in a fluid. I'm assuming you know what you are doing and are keeping things safe.

Either, however talk to RS explain the issue they should confirm, seem to recall that they were quite good like that.
