I have recently purchased that parts for my first build. I followed many videos and took my time building it however when I finally hit the power button to see if it worked nothing happens.....yikes. I'm thinking it might have to do with one of the cables that comes pre-installed in the case I could very possibly have something plugged in wrong. Any recommendations would help before I need to take to a store to have someone look at it.

Regarding the placement of stand-offs.

If they came pre-installed, you MIGHT have one (or more)in the wrong place. From what you say, you did not verify that before installing.

The only way to be sure, unfortunately, is to remove the mobo from the case and inspect carefully. Ideally there ought to be a stand-off under each mounting hole in the mobo. But MOST importantly, make sure there are NO stand-offs any place where there is NOT a mobo mounting hole.

There are a few cases that come with a special stand-off for certain mobos. Normal stand-offs have a threaded hole in the top for the screw through the mobo mounting hole. But sometimes the case will include an odd stand-off with an insulating rubber top on it. That can be used under...

Two ideas to check.

1. Is the main power switch mounted on the back of the PSU turned on?

2. A common form of error on new builds, especially first ones, is with stand-offs. They are those little metal spacers that screw into the back mounting panel of your case so that you can fasten down your mobo to them using screws through holes in the mobo. Often they come pre-installed in your mobo, but MAYBE they were not installed at all and you have to do that yourself. Anyway, the most important factor with them is that there must NOT be any stand-off under your mobo where there is NOT a hole in the mobo for a mounting screw. Any stand-off under the mono in the wrong location can cause a short to Ground from traces on the bottom of the mobo. This can cause a total failure to start up.

If you need more detailed info, post back here.

I have the NZXT S340 Elite case I am pretty sure it came with the spacers pre-installed but I am not sure... I just triple checked to make sure everything was plugged in correctly and it still is not working any other ideas??

As I asked before is the the PC powering up using power button on motherboard. If that doesn't work that means the problem is with wiring or motherboard or PSU. As you are saying that you cross-checked the wiring that means probably mobo or PSU is causing trouble.

That can be used under the mob where there is NOT a mounting hole, and some mobos are like that near the centre. But that is the ONLY situation when a stand-off can be in the "wrong" location.
