Hey everyone. I'm considering buying a GTX 1070 soon. I've looked inside my case and see that there is enough space for the gpu. My question is related to my PSU and the power connectors. I have no 8 pin power connectors on my PSU. I have a GTX 960 atm and it is using one 6 pin to power it. I also saw another spare 6 pin connector. I was wondering could I use a Dual 6 Pin splitter to 8 Pin pcie connector to plug into the video card? Is this safe and doable?

Thanks,

The pins are shaped to mostly go only one way to prevent weird hookups. The 24 pin motherboard connection is a good example. As long as the +2 you have is yellow and black (12 volt and ground), then you should be fine.

that is the only kind of adapter that is actually ok to use

dual 6-pin to single 8-pin

on my power supply i have a spare 2 pin connector, it doesn't look like it attached to a 6 pin as a 6+2 connector....can i use it anyways with any 6 pin to make a 8 pin to plug into 8 pin spot on the gpu? ty for your response dudio

Thanks dudio and others for the great advice. The info on the 2 pin connector was very helpful dudio! I'll admit I know little about power connectors and the colors on wires etc. I think that 2 pin connector did have a black and yellow wire. Now I just have to buy a gpu...been looking at the GTX 1070 Gigabyte mini for my computer to replace my gtx 960 mini so I can be certain it will fit without trouble
