Magnetic fields are subject to the inverse square law. This one of many reasons we have multiple radio towers and cellphone's towers everywhere instead of just one giant one in the middle of the country. The power required for doubling the useful distance is a lot.
I'm no expert, but i could have sworn static magnetic fields diminish much faster than the oscillating wave of emr fields.. like an order of magnitude faster.

Despite using a moving/rotating magnetic field, the vortech pump i was referencing is still using static magnetic fields and not oscillating waves.

I am no expert either, however, I believe that further mitigating factors beyond the inverse square law would be absorption and scattering. That is to say that the rate of diminishment could be much worse than just the base level law.
