I'm fairly sure it is not breaking the PCIe 300w compliance. See those 3 power connectors on the side? The extra power is not being drawn from the PCIe slot.
I wonder if they will have the sams clock speeds as the "regular" 7970s? As previously - some older dual GPUs on a single PCB cards would have lower clocks due to higher heat output.
This looks like a great card for multi monitor setups. This is going to have to cost slightly less than $1000 as you can get dual 7970's for less than 1000.
OMG Its massive! If it is going to retail for the same price of a GTX 690, and a 7970 is a bit slower than a GTX 680, could the 7970 x2 have two overclocked 7970s? Im just saying cause i see three 8-pin pcie connections.
It sure is a sexy and no doubt powerhouse of a card, but for $1,000..... I have a idea, how about Tom's give us all old members still around one! Just take out out of Marcus's paycheck.
[citation][nom]Derbixrace[/nom]what i have heard there will be no 7990. feel free to thumb me down but after some thought it really makes sense. sorry guys[/citation]
It doesn't matter. The 690 availability borders on non-existence, not unlike the 680. AMD is readying their refreshes, which is much more important to the bottom line.
[citation][nom]deadlift1[/nom]Is it just me or does the gpu on the right look like it has a face on it? Photoshop? devilish coincidence?[/citation]
I think you'd be better suited to Alex Jones sites.....
Given that there is no official reference design for a 7990 from AMD, and therefore no specialized drivers, I would worry about drivers working properly with this card. Would AMD drivers see this card as a pair of xfired 7970s, or is it a slightly different beast?
Given the way that it's named, I think it's strongly implied that it would be recognized as a pair of xfired 7970s by the drivers... then again, we'll find out next month
[citation][nom]sirencall[/nom]where were these with the 6xxx cards? Ive been hoping for 6950 x2 but nothing. Oh well next card is most likely gonna be Nvidia anyways[/citation]
