I have a USB HUB.

And I have tried both of these extension cables.

I've used the USB hub and USB extension cables for over a year on my desktop without much issue other than a dropped device once in a blue moon.
Now that I am waiting on a new desktop I decided to try using the same setup on my laptop and while it worked at first it will not work anymore.
When I connect the USB power hub to the extension cable windows detects it but then says it failed.
Looking in device manager it says unknown device.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device. I've tried updating the drivers and the issue still persists.

I also tested each device separately. I've connected the powered USB hub straight to the laptop and it worked great.
I've tried connecting the usb extension to the laptop and then plug in a single device (like a mouse) into the USB extension and that device worked.
But it won't work when connecting the powered USB hub to the extension cable and then that cable into my laptop.

I am scratching my head trying to figure out what could be the problem when it was working just fine earlier on my desktop and even worked (at first) on my laptop but now it won't.

Yes you should use USB 3.0 Hub and cables together. From what I remember the maximum length for USB 2.0 cable is 3m while for USB 3.0 is 5m. You need to add a Hub for every 5m cable.

The 10m cable should work as it's powered but it's for electricity, there is no warranty that the data will be consistently transfered though. There might be error during the transfer.
