Hey everyone,

I've bought a prebuild pc last year and everything is working perfect.
But there is one thing that's bothering me.
My whole friend group is in an active Battle for middle earth 2 (lord of the rings 2004) community.
The games are playable by everyone using windows 10 and 11 on the newest systems but i'm getting a weird error.

Specs:

*
Windows 11 Home
Intel Z790 Motherboard
Intel Core i9-13900K
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080
32 GB ram
1200 W power supply
2TB SSD (+ extra 2 tb SSD)
*

When i'm playing the game it runs normally but after a couple of minutes the game crashes to desktop without any error.
But when i checked the windows event viewer i get the following.

Battle for middle earth 1 plays a little longer and then gives me an *exception_access_violation* error message.
I though it was a problem that the game can't read or write to the BFME maps or drive, but everything is fully accessible.
Tried installing on a different drive and making sure its not set to read only.
Pc drivers are up to date, no malware, no hardware changes, everything is working perfectly and the newest games run absolutely fine.
Memcheck, checkdisk and other maintenance programs can't find a single problem.
Last option is to reinstall windows hoping that that's the problem.
But i wanted to ask everybody here before i start the big backup/reinstall procedure.
Does anybody have any idea what could be the problem?
The only other "annoying" problem is that every browser at random times also gives a "STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION" no matter what i do.
I read on another forum that the CPU might be the problem to that.
Other then these problems the pc has been working fine.
The photo/video editing software is working like a charm and even the most newest games (even vr) are not an issue at all.
Nothing but this game and chrome (and other browsers) are giving errors.
(My guess is that windows is the problem, otherwise other program's and games should have these problems but i'm no expert)

What would be the best thing to do?
Reinstall windows or make some changes to the hardware?

Thanks

Emily

Thanks for the reply rgd1101

This is the pc i bought.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_7602383-7602428-16

I for some reason cannot find what the psu is, other then its 1200w
I can't see it either on the back.
(downside of buying a prebuild i guess)

And i've just found the HP support app and installed a bunch of updates including the bios.
So that should be the most recent one
I've checked system information and it shows this on bios version/date
AMI F.22 14/12/2023

No idea if it fixed anything but tomorrow i'll be testing some things out to see if the bios update worked.
Would save me a lot of time/stress if it did :)

Still getting the crashes :(
I've added the folders the games uses (installation and appdata folders) on the "allow list" of my antivirus (Malwarebytes) but its the same problem.
Even tried running it with Malwarebytes and windows defender turned off incase they were blocking some elements.
Its also weird that its at random times.
Sometimes i can play for 3 minutes and other times i can play for 10-15 minutes before the crash happens.

well atleast the rest works and everything is up to date.
Maybe i just need to wait for a proper remaster before trying these old games again.

Hello, try resetting the BIOS settings to default and lowering the RAM frequency to 2400MHz, then test it out.

@ rgd1101 the cpu temp was 31 degrees and the gpu 42 (celcius) and weren't hardly used testing out the game.

I've ran the game in compatibility mode and as administrator and i could leave the game open for about an hour with no crashes.

So i'm hoping it works by running it like that.

I'll test some more tomorrow when i have the chance.

@Yelawolf thanks for the reply, i will test it out when the fix above doesn't work.
I just saw that my RAM frequency is 4400 MHZ.
Would or can it do any damage if i would set it to 2400?

I'll report back when i did some testing

well running in compatibility mode seems to do the trick
Also the updates regarding the bios seems to have fixed the other problems so I'm happy :)
Thanks for the replies and for thinking along with me
