Well there's one thing we can whole-heartedly agree on.

I think that 2010 will be the turn-around year for AMD, not just financially, but I think they'll get their technology turned around too.

I'm not sure it will be.

There was real competition before, 5 years ago or so. Intel snuffed it out, and since then the whole situation has changed so much that even AMD's superior engineers can't turn it around now.

2010 needs a major suprise (the good kind), or else it's curtains for AMD.

Hmm, I'd check Hector's pockets before he skips town 😀

you just contradicted yourself

+1000

LMAO[:mousemonkey:5][:mousemonkey:5][:mousemonkey:5][:mousemonkey:5]

But seriously it is good news that AMD finally hit black.

Yep, All AMD needs to do now is find another reason to sue Intel if they want to remain in the black 😛

How so?

How much longer do you think AMD can stand in the face of $2bn+ profits every quarter when they are barely breaking even?

AMD do have superior engineers, the fact that they are still hanging in is clear testament to that. However, the sheer billions being thrown at intels sub-par engineers is going to tell eventually.

How many mistakes can intel engineers make and get away with? Now how many mistakes can AMD engineers get away with? Intel intend to spend $7bn on R&D next year. That is more than AMD has ever made in revenues.

AMD's superior engineers can't turn it around now.

How is that not a contradiction?

how is it that superior engineering cannot turn IT around.

what in the hell did Intel do with the evolution of core to core 2duo?

Apparently you have to be inferior as a designer to TURN IT AROUND?

You walk into a logic based class , You say that superior minds cant turn x around and theyll stare at you until you leave.

so in tracing your lack of logic backwards

If AMD engineers are superior the 10k more or less Intel engineers which after the atic buyout will dwarf the entire AMD ATI staff is inferior no matter what , even though their lith is more precise and their designs are winning.

Youre really off into some wierd azz lala land where you couldnt be objective to save your life. You waste so much of your potential beating on the AMD gods wardrum that you not only discredit you but you make your idols look bad as people will think to own an amd is to share in the false reality people like you go around vomiting out all of your orifices.

No offense meant but you really need to stop worshipping AMD

Which you never are.

AMD Corporation in Q3 2009, lost $128 Million dollars, that figure and how it was derived are clearly presented in AMD's Financial Reports(assuming one knows how to read financial reports).

Pop quiz who owns most the patents on pc based tech?
answer Inel
reason?
Jenny H " its because they are inferior designers."
Reason why AMD has to license Intel x86 and growing extensions list as well as newly aquired multi threading?
Jenny H " because AMD is superior in design"

Reason why the 1 year younger AMD has had to go fabless
Jenny H because "AMD designers are superior"

etc etc etc

You should start a tech site with UFOlogists and reptile DNA webmasters grab doctor shakiranoob and BM and youre all set to compete with the best conspiracy tech theorists out there.

In reality it more like tech terrorism.

I'm not sure who has superior engineers, but that fact that AMD, with a fraction of Intel's R&D budget, (to say nothing of their alleged illegal tactics) is still relevant is impressive.

Give enough paint to enough monkeys and they might end up making a Picasso.

You mention 10k engineers, which will 'dwarf' the entire AMD staff, but you can't figure out that this same dwarfed staff has led in tech against them in the recent past, isn't that far behind right now, and beats them soundly in graphics? How did that happen if they didn't have superior engineers?.

You know the Dell billions, the dodgy compiler, all the behind-the-scenes stuff that intel have been dragged through courts the world over for?

If they had better engineers they wouldnt have had to do that would they?

Is this really so hard to figure out? Intels inferior engineers is the reason why intel have to behave they way they do, it's the reason why they have always behaved that way. The problem now is, intel have such a commanding monetary lead that even these inferior engineers can hardly fail to stay ahead. Even with garbage like Larrabee wasting $billions.

Have you any idea just how much further advanced we'd be if AMD engineers had that sort of money thrown at them? Do you even realise that *this* is why the FTC are after intel - for harming progress?

And how much did the AMD Product Company make?

Hilarious. You know what AMD-64 is right? You realise that intel licence a bunch of AMD's patents back? 😗

When people having been talking about AMD losing money, they talk about AMD Corporation, which takes into account all their revenues, all their expenses.

Considering you have such unique intrepretations of things(i.e. AMD made a profit this year without Intel's settlement money), why don't you first spell out what YOU mean by AMD Product Company.

Why take my account of it? Read the results, it clearly shows exactly what the Product Company is. Next quarter, that is ALL you will see now the GF results are deconsolidated.

I ask for your account/definition upfront because I have learned that you have such a unique and perverse view of matters, that without doing so, one couldn't be sure if we would be talking about the same things.

And if AMD Corporation goes bankrupt, what do you think the impact would be on AMD Product Company? 😀

That isn't going to happen considering the only reason the "entire" of AMD is losing cash is because of the foundry side of the business...which is about to be sold off probably to the tune of $2bn. :)

Which all makes AMD's accounts somewhat opaque by comparison to most other large companies.

There is no doubt that for now, AMD's records look probably better than is the situation due to Global Floundries needing AMD to stay afloat for a good few years at least. So I suspect that AMD is getting a sweetheart deal for now which will lead to sustained profitability in 2012 if Bulldozer isn't a fizzer.

This will allow AMD to raise more capital with a stronger share price, and by 2013 if not earlier, AMD will have divested itself of all it's holdings in GF and GF's foundry pricing it gives to AMD will reflect prevailing market conditions.

Now whilst the above should be easily understood by anyone with a third digit in their IQ, I think it best I make some further clarifying points.

1. I don't rule out AMD Corp actually having a genuinely profitable QTR before 2012.

2. If the World Economy double dips and the GFC revisits in the next 2 years, then AMD will continue to make losses.

You're right there isn't doubt, but for the wrong reason. GF has been making AMD's accounts look worse than they are all year, not better. There is nothing 'sweatheart' about the deal either. AMD created this company and is giving over cutting edge tech and technicians. They aren't going to do it cheap, same as TSMC wouldn't, Chartered didn't...nobody would.

Now whilst the above should be easily understood by anyone with a third digit in their IQ, I think it best I make some further clarifying points.

2. If the World Economy double dips and the GFC revisits in the next 2 years, then AMD will continue to make losses.

1) Depending on exactly how much of the GF loss is removed Q1, they may make a profit in this quarter.

2) Yes and most companies that aren't monopolies are the same. Maybe you want to check back 6-9 months and see who else was making a loss, because it sure as hell wasn't just AMD.
