What do you guys make of this story?

<A HREF="http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=11668" target="_new">http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=11668</A>

Sorry if it's been posted before.

(this is already old news, Hans De Vries speculated prescott had 64bit support a long time ago...)

I think it is only reasonable to assume that Intel is not showing all of its cards, and that it is quite possible that they've got such technology sleeping in their chips, awaiting to be awakened whenever needed...

Just cause its there doesnt mean they want to use it. Thats a new compiler they have to use. It also comprimizes their IA-64 line, sales wise since its soo important when you buy a 64bit CPU to emulate 32bit 😱 .

Although, if you give it some thought, Intel building x86-64 compilers would likely boost the living hell out of the K8 64-bit performance, given Intel's ironic C++ compiler results on AMDs.

Pope, this is a capitalistic world, you play by the second your competitor attacks, and shove aside any comments you say. Sadly.

Besides, Intel will likely continue to believe it is pointless to use 64-bit, but hey, so as AMD with the A64, I mean, no game is using actual 64-bit integers or addressing, merely extra register space. Intel can do that too, doesn't make them hypocrites at all.

If they had Yamhill there already (I wonder how come no group out there has yet been able to decode silicon core parts!), damn they must have poker eyes. That's just powerful, to hide so much in there.

Yup, Anandtech had a visit to an Intel fab article, and showed how strict it was and how past a door, cameras were prohibited.

Oh, and eden, I've got a photo of myself! I might be sending the thing to the "lochel" site or something soon, if I have the time... It's currently available around... <A HREF="http://www.ifi.unicamp.br/~daviddc/david01.jpg" target="_new">here</A> and there's another photo <A HREF="http://www.ifi.unicamp.br/~daviddc/david02a.jpg" target="_new">here</A>. The first photo has been edited (it's fairly obvious to see... looks almost "artistic" fake!), and the original is <A HREF="http://www.ifi.unicamp.br/~daviddc/david01b.jpg" target="_new">here</A>...

So ok, this doesn't really have anything to do with prescott having 64 bit support, but hey, I just remembered it...

Ooooohhhhhhh, What caliber is that gun?

When you're done cleaning up Spud, I think there are a few trolls around here that require that gun's attention.

As each day goes by, I hug my 9600Pro just a little tighter.

Aren't we all freaks in that album?

Hey Meph, try sending to scamtron@msn.com. Include THGC PIC as subject line, as it helps him sort it all out. Also, whatever you want added on your site, just tell him.

Alas, I dunno if he can update soon. You came one day late, he finished yesterday updating and adding new sites, we are now at 67 Album users! I don't know if he will add yours now, as the cycle is usually long, but give it a try. If it fails, your pics will be up in the next month or so.

The real question is not wheather or not Intel has the 64bit support or not. We all know they could do it in a second without us evenknowing theuy made a change. The bigger question is what Microsoft is going to do. In order for the whole 64bit stuff to go anywhere, we have to have software that can do something with it for the common folk. Windows runs the common world and thats what Intel is watching to make the jump to 64 bit or wait.

I'm a Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Student, not English, nor will I ever claim to be.

The fact that Microsoft is creating a 64 bit edition of Windows proves that Microsoft at the least thinks theres some merit in going 64 bit.

--------
The only thing that i truly know...

is that i know nothing at all.

They need to control the x86 market, what else do you think.

Now a scary thought would be that Intel played its trump card already without telling anyone, and that Windows 64 is actually using Yamhill support along AMD64! 😱

Now Eden your thinking, history has a lesson MS never makes something Unless Intel has something for them to run it with.
