64-bit isn't limited to weather modeling, airflow studies, fluids, plasmas, nuclear reactors and hydraulics...you know that a 64-bit version of UT2k3 is being developed, right??? Oh yeah, Windows XP is being developed for 64-bit, so is DivX, Linux already has been, etc. Photoshop CS on Macs TREMENDOUSLY improves performance because it utilizes the 64-bit extensions on the G5...the improvement was greater than 1000%.

The average Jo can hold onto their PII for all I care, but sooner or later (within Q1 '05, when Intel enters the market), 64-bit will be taking somewhat of a mainstream--I look forward to it.

And like I said, I'm not about to go through every single board. nVidia is having problems, you can read about that at serveral sites. VIA is getting the best ratings on current boards, but VIA has always been junk and always will be. SiS makes good chipsets but I can't find any A64 boards using them, and you can't just go out and buy a reference board.

SiS always makes top performers (non-integrated versions), the problem is finding a good board using them!
1.) SiS 735 beat KT266
2.) SiS 645 beat Intel 845
3.) SiS 655 beat Intel 7205
4.) SiS 655FX beat Intel i875 (see Anandtech)
The thing that put SiS in the middle was when the nForce2 pushed them down. But now that nVidia is having problems with the nForce3, SiS has the top notch 755. DFI promised a top quality board using it, but where is it? All we can look at are reference boards, which have appeared at several sites wiping the floor with other chipsets.

It's nice of AMD to push the 64-bit market forward though, without the hardware nobody would produce the software.

I'd definately go with the nForce3 board if I had to pick one, nVidia is a far more reliable company than VIA. But I've yet to see any evidence that nVidia has fully addressed performance problems on the nForce3.

you can't say bios is not a factor in determining if a board is bad or not. If you change this to graphics cards, the driver support and ability makes all the difference. So what if your x card can out do mine in benchmark z, at least my card can play game y.......

I'm a Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Student, not English, nor will I ever claim to be.(Pertains to Grammatical and Spelling ability)

But your unbiased advice to the public is avoid the A64 at all costs right now because there are no platforms worthy of it at the current time. If people are buying these things they need to know this stuff which is why I was asking.

I was just looking for a link or something other than your opinion to back up your statement.

"How about the fact that every...single...motherboard for the A64 currently on the market is junk"

If I glanced at a spilt box of tooth picks on the floor, could I tell you how many are in the pile. Not a chance, But then again I don't have to buy my underware at Kmart.

would you leave the fella alone? stop acting like "the dog that goes back to his own vomit, and makes a feast of that filth for himself"

Realy love THG forum, why are there no moderators ?
I know why, if i told a moderator : THG is Intel bias, haw can you work for such a forum ? He doesnt know what to say.

For the rest, realy love thos intel lovers comments, always have something to comment, and this time it are the motherboards, come on, get real ! you guys are pethetic ! just as pethetic(yes i know it is wrong spelled) Intel with its EE !

I haven't had BIOS affect program stability since I quit buying VIA.

My opinion is based only on 7 years of experience in the white box & refurb industry where every VIA platform I've ever dealt with has had noticeable and anoying chipset/driver bugs. My experience tells me that it's more responsible to wait for nVidia to fix their problems or for SiS platforms to emerge.

nVidia is developing the nForce 3 250Pro, supposedly fixes the HyperTransport problem.

Intel has every right to design and produce the EE. It is a solid performer and the best Intel has to offer to comsumers (albeit rich ones). What exactly is wrong with liking a high performance chip??

Yes, I heard that and took a "wait and see" aproach.

hey, Poop, I understand yer strugle to look smart around here, but please, make yerself a favor, get a nice woman for a couple of nights and enjoy the life for a bit. Mabee then you will realize that thanks to Intel and MS you are able to "Realy love THG forum", which brings you the pleasure of reading "FOOL"s comments from fellas like me myself and such other doods.

Ok crash so now it's just your opinion. Fair enough that's all I needed to know. So long as everyone here knows it's just an opinion.

I see THG has a review out on these boards now. As Intel biased as THG might be they never knocked the A64 chipsets like you did.

Sorry for being so hard on you Crash. I actually have a great deal of respect for you (not kidding) You are very very knowledgable quite informed and offer endless usefull advice to the novice. I would never lump you in with someone like Blah or sodnighthawk these forums are lucky to have you.

Where I get irratated is you favor Intel a little to blindly for my liking. Sorry if I come across a little strong at times.
