Just wondering when the so called July price drops will take affect? I have 2 gig left on my hard drive and needing to do something soon. Was going to order a Q6600, but I never did see the promised price drop. I understand retailers need to deplete their supplies, just thought that would have happened by now.

The $266 price was per 1000 units. The retail price did drop from over $500 to around $300 and will continue to drop as demand decreases.

In July as anticipated.

k. So a Q6600 is the logical upgrade path for your need of a larger HD?

Google is your friend.

I was planning on building a new computer (computer is over six years old) and am pretty much a penny pincher. I was under the impression the Q6600 was going to sell for around $200 in July, I guess I was wrong.

The Q6600 will never be $200 it will be replaced long before it gets to that point, If you wait a month or two it should however get to the $270-$280 range. $300 is a great price for a quad core CPU, especially when you consider that the Q6600 is just 2 E6600's put together, your getting a second CPU for an extra $70. If your on a tight budget go for a E4400 and overclock, you could get that little $120 CPU over 3ghz which is great bang for the buck.

Q6600 is already down to $280's if you do a froogle.google.com search on intel q6600. Change price to lowest to highest.

Also zipzoomfly.com has it for 289 I believe. Clubit has it for 295, it is out there under 300 you just gotta do a little searching.

It may hit 200/150 when/if AMD gets Phenom out and saying Intel does get Penryn out ahead of schedule as they are planning. then again 266 may be the last selling point, you never know.
