Hey community,

I apologize in advance if this is not the right spot to post this question, please move it or tell me where to ask it instead.

Tldr: My primary monitor flickers every once in a while (about every 30secs) as you can see in the link (slowed by 1/10).:

My setup contains two monitors, the problematic one being an AOC G2790PX connected via DP, the other one is a 2560x1080 LG monitor connected with HDMI. My workstation is running Win10 Pro and uses a GTX 1060 6GB.

Following things probably help finding the source:
  • The primary monitor (the flickering one) is new. Long story short, I bought it, used it for 2 months, had a problem, sent it back, received a new model and since then I do have this flickering. (although this indicates the monitor is faulty, I don't believe that, see next points)
  • The flickering only occurs if both monitors are connected - disconnecting the second one solves the problem immediately.
  • When booting from a Ubuntu USB, I can't reproduce the problem. (!)
  • Using a different DP cable didn't help.
  • Reinstalling all drivers didn't help.

I appreciate any ideas you can come up with, I'd prefer not to reinstall my entire system if there is a simpler way.

Thanks in advance,
Plexian

I'd appreciate any kind of help, even somebody who tells me that the most likely cause for this problem is software related, meaning that reinstalling windows might help.

The AOC ran at 144Hz, the LG at 60Hz.
You got a very nice point though, thanks for that!: Changing the frame rate of the AOC to 60Hz as well, fixes the problem!
This is only a temporary soultion, since I obviously wanna make use of the 144Hz, that's why I bought it.
Any ideas on how to approach this problem?
